Today much of what makes Pinecrest so special has come about through its partnerships with other organizations like Hospice Tampa Bay Area (HTA) – one of Southeast Florida’s largest hospices – St Vincent’s Children’s Medical Center (SVC), Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Combined Patrol Station 5 as well as numerous businesses from retail to restaurants! One particular aspect common to nearly every community in southeast FL is Interchurch Neighborship which helps connect people from different faiths together for service learning opportunities or simply lawnmowing or groceries!

It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pinecrest is located on U.S. Route 301 south of Clearwater and east of St Augustine. The first permanent settler in Pinecrest was A.C. "Teddy" Smith who arrived in 1892 from Clearwater and named his land after pine trees he saw near his home on Clearwater Bayou. In 1911, General Electric Company leased 3 tracts of land from J.] Bigham for use as a research station for electric lightbulbs and other electronics products development; today's GEICO Place Shopping Center occupies one tract of this original leasehold area that still bears the name 'Bigham'. After World War II several small businesses were established around US 301/SR 601: Granny's Grocery (1946), Mrs Lowdermilk's Tea House (1948), Joe's Pizza (1970) and Big John's Ice Cream Factory (1994). In 1957 Pinecrest became an unincorporated community when it annexed its neighboring community of Westbury Beach Later annexations followed including Gainesville Heights in 1978, College Park in 1984, Sunrise Hills in 1990, Northshore Acres in 1996 and Fish Creek Estates in 2002 which reunited all communities south of SR 601 with Pinecrest as its center
In Pinecrest, Florida, the first Post Office was established in 1892. In 1907, the town of Pinecrest was annexed by Gainesville. The area now known as Pinecrest was settled in the early 1800s by Scots-Irish and English settlers who were lured to this region by its rich phosphate deposits.
