Pinecrest is a small town located in Monroe County, Florida. The population was 1,788 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Miami metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1887 by A.J. Pine and his wife Jennie Chapman Pine. The two were driving out to a picnic when they saw an acacia tree with a huge root system on the side of a hill. They decided to name their new community after the tree. A post office was established in 1888, and the first grocery store opened in 1890. In 1901, Pinecrest became incorporated as a village under Republican control and had its own fire department and school district. In 1959, Pinecrest experienced its first tornado outbreak, which killed three people and injured more than thirty-six others. That year also marked the beginning of what would be known as the "Pinecrest Miracle" – during this time, pine trees began to grow rapidly all over town due to fertilization by local bees! In 1861, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated with a shotgun by John Wilkes’ son-in-law Adam Clayton Powell. This event helped make shotguns more popular in America and inspired other countries to follow suit. Gun targets have also been used for shooting competitions since the 1800s. These competitions were often held outdoors and required participants to hit different positions on an artificial target called an “atlatl”. Atlatls were made from wooden stakes that had sharp tips attached to them so they could be used as firearms projectiles. The first shotgun target competition was held in 1876, and it was won by George Washington Carver Jr.. over his opponent’s rifle target

Pinecrest is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–St. Augustine-- Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Pinecrest was John Troup, who arrived on August 3, 1837. A post office called Pinecrest was established in 1853, and remained in operation until 1935. The community received its name from nearby Pines of Castor Township (now part of Stonington), which were so tall that they appeared to be Recreation Woods from a distance. According to one account, when General Andrew Jackson visited Pinecrest during the Seminole Wars he found it abandoned by its inhabitants due to lack of food and water supplies; however local legend has it that he discovered two Indian women living there who had fled Native American raids into adjacent counties during the war years. He ordered his troops not to take themprisoners but instead gave them parcels of land as compensation for their losses and allowed them back into their homes after hostilities ended. A post office called Pinecrest was established on December 16, 1875 by order of President Ulysses S. Grant; it served until 1936. In 1893, a sawmill and gristmills were built within the limits of present-day Pinecrest; these continued to operate until 1971 when they were replaced by an aluminum plant near Jupiter Beach. The old mill complex still stands today as a historical landmark known locally as "The Old Mill". In 1916 voters approved a resolution making Pinecrest "the official seat" for elections in Polk County; this function was transferred from Muskegon Heights in 1927 and continues today as county government operations are based at the courthouse located downtown since 1959). In 1934–35 pine trees were planted on Main Street between Fourth Avenue and US 23/SR 620 south of town limits – becoming what is now known as "Pine Crest Park." On May 15th 1915 students at West Side High School founded an all-female high school named after themselves – Pine Crest High School (later renamed Eastside High School). As per tradition girls can only attend schools with male classmates through enrollment agreements negotiated with our respective Schools Districts
