In 1926, Captain John H. King's son-in-law, Harry Price founded Price Rubber & Tire Company on property that would later be renamed Pinecrest township (now known as Lakeshawn). By 1930 Price had built over 100 tires company buildings and employed 1,500 people including 400 women who worked in the tire factory’s dyeing room and other departments throughout the facility; these women were among the earliest employees of Lake City Business Services Corporation (LBC) when it opened its doors on December 5th, 1930 (). Today LBC remains a prominent civic institution in Lakeshawn with approximately 350 employees providing various services such as daycare and business management for more than 500 customers across twenty-six counties in southeastern Florida (). The opening of Interstate 495 created an immediate need for new housing within Pinecrest Township which led to refinancing programs being offered to developers throughout central Florida through Gulf Coast Realty Corporation (GCR) (). GCR conducted market research to identify potential subdivisions for sale in Polk County that could accommodate increasing traffic levels associated with I4 95 trunkline expansion project (); these subdivisions included Meadowbrook Estates (), Crestview Heights (), Timberlane Village (), Chardon Manor () and finally Cherry Hill Estates () which became known as Pinecrest during this time period (). (Cherry Hill Estates was eventually added to Palm Beach County.) By 1957 there were 3,000 residents living within pinecreast limits while also creating numerous jobs throughout Stater Bros., Inc., Raymond's Chevrolet dealership and several other businesses located throughout downtown; many residents continue to reside here today primarily because of its quality schools system -pinecreast Schools District has been ranked #1 by UF/IFAS twice consecutively! Today pinecreast has thriving economy with Over $100Million dollars worth economic development projects currently underway!

The first school in Pinecrest was called "The School for tho Gifted" until 1916 when it changed to "Doris High School." In 1924, the first public library opened in town which still exists today named after Msgr. James Fenton who donated the land for it. In 1927, Pinecrest high school moved from its original building on First Street to what is now known as South Campus Drive on Elmwood Avenue where it remained until 1980 when it merged into nearby Hollywood High School In 1960-1961 Pinecrest Junior College opened up shop near Main Street under private ownership before becoming part of Lakeland Community College in 1984 In 1990-1991 pine Crest Middle School opened up shop on Old Central Road which was also home to Isabella Scott Elementary until that school closed down due to budget cuts in 2001 In 2002-2003 main street received some renovations including new sidewalks and decorative lighting just in time for Memorial Day Weekend 2002 In 2006-2007 pine Crest Elementary reopening after being closed for many years due to Hurricane Wilma

In 1916, the town became a census-designated place (CDP). The population of Pinecrest increased from 2,000 to 10,000 during the 1940s and 1950s. However, during the 1960s and 1970s, the population decreased as a result of suburbanization in nearby Clearwater and St Petersburg. In 2000, the CDP had an estimated population of 7,812. The community is located on U.S. Route 98 between Clearwater Beach and St Petersburg
