Pinecrest is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 15,671 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Pinecrest was founded in 1913 as a community on the shores of Biscayne Bay by citrus grower and developer Prentice Mulford. In 1927, Mulford gave Pinecrest to his wife, Norma Jane Mulford, as a gift for their wedding anniversary. At that time, Pinecrest consisted of only six homes and 12 businesses. The first post office was established in 1928 and remained open until 1971. In 1957, Pinecrest became an incorporated municipality with voting rights and its own police department under the name of " annex". The following year it annexed neighbouring communities of Coral Gables and Little Havana to form "Coral Gables-Miami Beach" city government. In 1963, when Broward County merged into Miami-Dade County, Pinecrest became one of its constituent towns; however it continued to operate as an annexed municipality with its own Police Department until 1973 when it was transferred to Miami-Dade County's jurisdiction completely. Since annexation into Miami-Dade County complete with full local government operations in 1973 pine Crest has had 5 mayors and has been represented by 2 county commissioners

Pinecrest is home to Pine Crest High School and John S. McCain Elementary School. The first settlers of Pinecrest were James and Sarah Crouse who arrived from New York in 1851. They brought with them their families and three oxen which they drove overland to what is now Polk County from what is now Delaware County, Pennsylvania. In 1869, Jethro Gibbs built a cabin on the site of present-day McCain Elementary School as a summer oasis for his family and employees of the Miami & Erie Railroad Company while construction was taking place on a new line connecting Jacksonville with Port St Lucie via Clearwater Beach. When the railroadfinished its tracks through McCain in 1871, Jethro Gibbs donated the land east of town to become Pinecrest Cemetery which still exists today as one of the most prestigious cemetery settings in Southwest Florida In 1949,pinecrest became one of eighty-six townships within Baker county when it was created from parts of Hardee and Bradford counties by state law No. 174 On February 17th 1959 pinecrest had its only fire during school hours when someone set a paper clip onto an open flame that started in an empty metal can next to their science lab
