Pinecrest is a city in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 25,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lee County and the home to Pinecrest High School. The city is located on the western edge of Lee County on State Road 97 and Interstate 495. Pinecrest was founded by J.M. Hagerty in 1883 as a small community on what is now what is known as Airport Road east of present-day downtown Pinecrest. At its peak in the 1920s, Pinecrest had a population of over 100 people but today only has 8 residents living within city limits

Pinecrest was founded in 1892 by James Pine and his wife, Emma. The name comes from the pine tree that is located on the property. The first post office was established in 1893 and the population of Pinecrest increased rapidly during the early years. By 1907, there were over 200 residents living in Pinecrest. In 1916, a small school was built on the property and continued to serve the community until 1954 when it closed due to budget cuts. In 1955, a large factory called "The Pine Crest" opened up in town and quickly became one of Florida's leading manufacturers of automobiles. During its time, The Pine Crest produced over 1 million cars. However, by 1979, all production had ceased due to economic hardships within the local community. Today, much of what once made Pinecrest an important community has been destroyed or removed entirely thanks to development initiatives throughout recent decades. Nevertheless, many of those who lived here during its heyday are still active in their communities today and can be found scattered throughout various parts of Florida - including Clearwater County where Pinecrest is located - celebrating local history each year at various events such as Oktoberfest or Fourth of July fireworks displays.
