There are no schools in Pinecrest so most residents attend either Stonington High School or Sanford Christian Academy which are both located outside town limits

The community began as a post office in 1917 and was renamed Pinecrest after pine trees that were found in the community. In 1959, Pinecrest became an incorporated village with a government officer and three trustees appointed by the state of Florida to manage its affairs. The village had no school until 1961 when it opened underprivileged children's school called "Pinecrest Elementary". The first teacher at "Pinecrest Elementary" was Mrs. Alice Sievers who taught from 1951-1957 followed by Mrs. Bertha Kappenberg from 1957-1959 before becoming principal in 1962 In 1969, Pinecrest Elementary merged with neighboring Lake Worth to form "Lake Worth Union School District". In 1976, Park Ridge School (now known as Park Ridge Middle) opened which merged into "Lake Worth Union School District". After much discussion among residents about whether or not to merge their schools back into one district due to budgetary reasons, residents voted to keep their respective schools separate again and continue operating them as individual entities until 1993 when they merged back into one district once again under new management name "Pinecrest Union School District" . In 2002, Pinecrust Community College opened its doors providing educational opportunities for locals and visitors alike In 2007, PINECRET COMMUNITY COLLEGE changed its name to Coral Gables University after receiving US$1 million grant from Gulf Coast Oasis Foundation Incorporated On July 6th 2013 Coral Gables University announced plans to close all but two departments effective September 30th 2013effective because of budget cuts this caused an uproar among students who staged protests throughout August2013 resulting in several arrests
Pinecrest was founded in 1876 by the Pinecrest Land and Improvement Company. The company developed the area around present-day Pinecrest, making it a key commercial center for citrus production in Florida. In 1926, Pinecrest became a city, and in 1959 it became a state capital.
