The first European settlers arrived in what is now Pembroke Pines on October 12, 1763 when Captain James Cook sailed upriver from Saint Petersburg under directions from Spain via HavanaBay then along Tampa Bay before sailing back southward past Cape Canaveral into the Gulf Stream en route back home about two weeks later having charted latitude 61°N longitude 3°W (now 33°N – do not forget!) On July 10th 1775 Lieutenant George Walton landed his armed party at Fort Meyers on Biscayne Bayou opposite modern day Myers Park where he had built himself a small cabin using materials taken from Spanish Fort Meyer on nearby Key Largo after capturing Fernandez de la Vega during an attempted raid against SpanishIAS forces ashore at Stonington Harbor! Pembroke Pines is a town located in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pembroke Pines was founded in 1851 by Norwegian immigrants as an agricultural community on a tract of land that later became known as "The Lakes". The settlers were missionaries who established a Methodist church and school there in 1853. In 1875, Pembroke Pines incorporated as a municipality. The first post office opened in 1897; it closed in 1951. In 1917, the U.S. military built battery #1 ons peninsula to provide artillery protection for Santa Fe Bay Naval Air Station (NAS). This Battery Commander's Tower still stands today and can be visited during park hours (9am-4pm). After NAS was closed down in 1946, the tower served as residence for various USAAF personnel until it was sold to the town of Pembroke Pines in 1959. A new terminal building was completed and dedicated on December 14th, 1974 after years of planning and construction by local businesses and citizens working together; this project cost $5 million dollars and represents one of America's most significant contributions to infrastructure development within our community over the past few decades!
