It is a small town located on a small peninsula between Lake Wales and Apalachicola Bay. In 1911, Pembroke Pines became part of Citrus County when it was formed from parts of both Jacksonville Township and Clay County. As Citrus County grew rapidly during World War II, Pembroke Pines began to experience growth due to its strategic location on key military bases within range of enemy troops. In 1949, Citrus County merged with Osceola County to form Brevard County. During this time period, Pembroke Pines experienced significant growth as a result of new development along State Road A1A which connected the town directly to Brevard Countys major airports (Orlando International Airport and Melbourne International Airport). By 2000, there were more than 200 businesses operating in downtown Pinemont while 8500 residents lived within walking distance of all services provided by the local government including education, health care, shopping malls/stores/, parks/recreational opportunities/, transportation options/, etc.). In recent years there have been efforts underway by community members to address some important issues such as increasing traffic congestion on State Road A1A which impacts access to local businesses and limiting nightlife activity; however these initiatives have not yet had a positive impact on overall community revitalization efforts

The name of the town comes from Englishman John Pembroke who settled there in 1835. The first post office in Pembroke Pines was established on November 15, 1881. In 1906, electric service began to the community and by 1930, all but one street had been paved. By 1940, only 2% of the population still used horses for transportation. Today there are few if any businesses that rely upon horse-drawn services and most residents commute to jobs in Miami or Tallahassee. The history of Pembroke Pines goes back even further than this though - it is home to one of America's earliest airfields where Civil War veterans operated an experimental flying field known as "Dakota" during the war years 1861-1865. Dakota was also used for military training during World War II - including operations over Bataan Peninsula which resulted in the death of Japanese pilots Jiji Ito and Kiyoshi Suzuki when their Allied fighter aircraft collided with American bombers on December 14th 1944 while hitting a building near Manila Beach; both men were taken directly to a hospital where they succumbed two days later (Jiji died from his injuries while Kiyoshi survived). Todayadays, many retirees live here although some businesses have closed down due to competition from other towns in Citrus County such as Ocoee or Miramar. There are still a few residences scattered around town - some dating back to 1915 and others just recently built – making it quite charming despite its small size! One popular tourist spot within walking distance of town is Stonington Park which offers plenty of activities for children including baseball games, playgrounds and more importantly waterfalls set among beautiful trees!
