Parkland, Florida is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 21,868 at the 2010 census. Parkland is located in the Apalachicola National Forest and includes portions of the towns of Coral Springs and Fort Myers. The town was founded by settlers from Georgia in 1855. It was named for Major General James P. Park (1792-1864), who served as an officer under US President George Washington during the American Revolution and as military governor of Georgia from 1796 to 1800. Parkland's first store opened in 1857 and its first post office opened on November 1, 1858. The town became part of Miami-Dade County when it was created from Monroe County on May 5, 1906. In 1930, Killian Bogan purchased land east of Interstate 95 in what would become Parkland; he named it after his father, Killian Fagan Bogan (1897-1973). Bogan had been born near Jacksonville but grew up in Maitland until 1924 when he moved to Fort Myers with his family to work as a machinist at local aircraft manufacturer Douglas Aircraft Co.. In 1936 he bought 2 acres west of I-95 and built what would become what is now known as "Bogan's Barbecue." The restaurant began serving food there on October 16th, 1937. The business continued into the 1970s when it merged with Jacksonville's Executive Inn which operated until 1984; that year it passed into private hands before being reopened as the Killian Bogan House Museum & Grill by current proprietor Lourdes De la Rosa on July 10th - only one day shy of her grandfather's death anniversary! On February 14th 1966–the deadliest day in UF history withained fatalities numbering 27 students and staff members only 8 miles from campus–a group led by then junior Dann Stemberg stormed Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School after seeing on television footage gunman Nikolas Cruz opening fire inside building #10A just prior to dismissal for lunchtime––and killed 17 people including Stoneman Douglas Principal Draneski along with teacher Scott Beigel (1927-2018) before turning their gun onto themselves while hiding under a desk inside Building 7A! All were seniors or graduates! A few weeks later another group led by sophomore Brendan Kiely stormed Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School but did not kill any people––only wounding three before fleeing––and this time gunmen expelled them out back door! This event has been called "The Day That Changed America" because it initiated nationwide calls for stricter gun control laws – anti-gun measures that have since become popular around the world! I could go on But really what makes Parkland unique are all 3 main businesses that call Parklands home: BBQ restaurants owned/operated by descendants of Killian Fagan Bogan (the namesake); Executive Inn which operated until 1984; & Museum & Grill which currently runs Lourdes De La Rosa's establishment

Parkland, Florida is a small town located in Broward County, Florida. The town was founded by James P. Park and his family in 1874. The first school in Parkland was built on the site of today's high school in 1875. Over time, other schools were built and the population of Parkland exploded from just over 100 people in 1950 to over 4,000 people by 1970. In 1978, Parkland incorporated as a city and has since grown into one of South Florida's most vibrant communities with a rich history that can be found throughout its neighborhoods and businesses. The Town of Parkland was originally settled primarily by farmers who came to Broward County during the early 1800s looking for new land to cultivate after departing Ireland for what is now North America. At first, the farmers only rented land from local landowners but as their numbers grew they started buying land too- eventually becoming homeowners. Eventually, the town became so large that it needed its own government which was established in 1876 when James P. Park proposed creating a government for all of SouthFlorida under one roof due to the fact that there were no towns or villages within miles of each other erected at that time! The idea quickly gained popularity among residents who wanted to feel like their voice was being heard and soon enough, an election committee had been selected which created a City Council made up of12 citizens! From here on out things began to grow rapidly; development occurred on both an amateur and professional level with architects designing beautiful homes while businessmen built factories and stores downtown! By 1960-1962, there were already 2 hospitals functioning within our borders (one being operated by Memorial Hospital) while 3 restaurants/bars opened Downtown while 1 movie theater opened! It wasn't until 1975 when Parks died suddenly leaving his wife carrying on this dream which led to her subsequently selling majority ownership back to the community & forming a Board Of Directors including herself! This then initiated another rapid growth spurt as various businesses purchased property adjacent to our original High School Campusbeginning construction immediately!! Today we have 5 elementary schools (3 public & 2 private), 3 middle schools (2 public & 1 private), 1 high school (Broward Catholic) along with numerous corporate buildings including 2 hospitals (!), numerous parks(including Parke Residence[now part of Coral Gables]!), several theaters(including Hollywood Palladium[now part of All Star Cinemas]]), multiple restaurants/bars(Parkside Grille,[now closed], Dunes Dive Lounge,[closed],[Fiesta Lighthouse], etc.), more than 50 specialty stores(including Artisan Foods)[closed],[Golf Course Village], nightlife[Lofty Lady Live!, etc.), 12 churches (+1 Roman Catholic Church added in 2017)), 8 golf courses ([Parke Resort Golf Course][Closed],[Dune Dive Loft][opened]), plus dozens more street namesakes like "Kissimmee Boulevard" & "Hollywood Boulevard" [both now defunct]).
