There is no one answer to the question of how Parkland, Florida became a place where people take armed protection seriously. However, gun violence and safety in the city dates back to at least 1966 when a group of activists named the National Rifle Association (NRA) organized a series of anti-gun rallies throughout the city. In response to this rally, Mayor Reubens banned all open carrying of handguns in the city. Parkland, Florida is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States located on the north-central coast of the state. The population was 17,828 at the 2010 census. It lies along State Road 441 and is east of Jacksonville. The first people to live in Parkland were Native Americans who hunted and fished on its shores. In 1835, a group of white men from Stonington, Connecticut founded a plantation called "Palm Beach." They imported African slaves as workers and used them to develop the land. By 1840, most of Palm Beach had been bought by Englishman James Prentice Vanderbilt and his American wife Susan Biddle Vanderbilt. In 1845, they moved theirarters to what is now Parkland after buying partial ownership of land from the Seminole Tribe that included much of present-day Polk County. During World War II there was an US Navy base here called Naval Air Station Key West which played an important role in providing air cover for ships engaged in battle against Japan during WWII. After the war ended in 1945, many military buildings were abandoned or demolished including one that housed a catapult that could launch airplanes into high water for bombing raids deep sea targets such as Tokyo Bay

From 1825 until 1934 there was a ban on handguns manufactured outside of California due to concerns over public safety; however this ban was eventually lifted since pistol production resumed within California following World War II . It is interesting to note that even though handguns have been banned numerous times throughout history they have continued to be available through various purchasing methods including online auctions ,Dealerships etc... This indicates that there is no single explanation for why handguns continue to be popular across different cultures despite frequently being prohibited or considered unsafe . The name "Parkland" comes from a grove of trees on the east side of Fort Lauderdale that served as an early military post. Parkland was incorporated on November 15, 1911 and named for Captain James A. Park (1863-1914), who fought in World War I and 1919's Spanish–American War with distinction. In 1927, developers John Hargrave and Julius Rosenfeld bought 219 acres (89 hectares) along Miami Beach Boulevard from Arthur Waley for $1 million dollars. They began construction on Sunrise Boulevard which would become one of South Florida's most fashionable neighborhoods In 1929 they renamed their development Sunrise Gardens after then President Herbert Hoover's home at 20th Century Fox Studios in Hollywood Hills, California where he had been living while serving as U.S Ambassador to Spain during the 1920s. They brought in architect Daniel Burnham to design what would become known as "The Art Deco Era". By 1937 all but two buildings were completed with over 2,000 residents."Miami Herald Hargrave died in 1932 and Rosenfeld continued development until his death in 1957;"Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel The last building was finished in 1959 by his son Harry Rosenfeld Jr.
