As a result of this event and subsequent violence within Parkland society ensuing from this period known as Reconstruction Period II%, many African Americans found themselves displaced or left for better economic prospects outside the county limits throughout much of South Florida during this time frame; including Key West to Jacksonville or Tampa Bay to St Petersburg/Clearwater City during this era both being major port cities with large black populations at that time due to their proximity to key naval installations ashore on Biscayne Bayou - all areas now occupied by Miami-Dade County . In 1865 when Broward County was organized following Union victory over Confederate forces at Battle Of Gaines Mills - its boundaries expanded eastward along I-95 highway from Dania Beach eastward until it reached what is now Northwest Second Avenue - another key slave market area then located along Biscayne Bayou between Southwest Eighth Street & Southwest Tenth Street - annexed into Broward County creating one large county with an increasingly diverse population ethnically speaking .
