In 1914, Maeve Brennan organized a group of women who wanted to form their own municipal government for Parkland but were met with opposition from men who felt that they should be led by men because they knew more about politics than women. On September 25th 1915, a resolution was passed unanimously by the Town Council calling for an organizational meeting so that women could learn more about local government and suggest changes to it if desired before any formal action could be taken
