Spearheading DAGSA’s response have been local chapters across America- including one in Parkland- with the goal of rallying together people of all walks of life to demand change. One thing that has remained constant since Parkland was impacted by the massacre is the outpouring of support from citizens who have taken to social media and other platforms to express their frustration with lawmakers and NRA executives who have refused to take action on gun control. On Feb. 15, 2018, several hundred citizens gathered at Broward County Hall in Fort Lauderdale to call for tighter gun laws following the mass shootings at Santa Fe High School and El Paso Texas two weeks earlier. Despite this public outcry and increased pressure from DAGSA members statewide, state legislators failed multiple times last year to pass any meaningful gun reform legislation - including measures designed to prevent school shootings like those in Parkland from happening again . In fact, as of March 21st 2019 , there were only six bills that had been filed in Tallahassee related specifically to guns since January 2018 . This lack of action suggests that groups like DAGSA are not going away until these bills are passed into law . Unfortunately, this inaction does not bode well for future efforts because it shows that lawmakers do not prioritize public safety when it comes to firearms . If these legislators don’t want solutions coming out of their districts then they need show some backbone and start doing something instead of just talking without anything actually getting done!

In 1854, the area that is now Parkland was part of Florida's Seminole Indian tribe. In 1859, the Florida General Assembly created Fort Lauderdale as a military post to protect Floridians from Seminole Indians and Mexican traders. The fort was built on what is now Broward Boulevard and Interstate 95. In 1865, Fort Lauderdale became the first city in Florida to be incorporated as a town. Parkland was named for Major-General Daniel S. Park, who served as commander of the American forces in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. The first school in Parkland opened in 1870. In 1893, there were only three homes in Parkland; by 1907, there were over 100 homes. The population of Parkland grew rapidly after World War I when men came to work on new road construction and manufacturing projects throughout South Florida. During World War II, many soldiers brought their families to Parkland where they lived until the war ended in 1945. After the war ended, many residents returned home and began building new lives within walking distance of their old homes or taking driveways into new neighborhoods off of I-95 just north of Broward Boulevard
