Panama City is a city located in the Panamanian province of Mocama, on the Atlantic coast of Panama. The population of the city was 1,763 as of 2010. After military victory over Colombia in 1916–17 brought about a power vacuum in Panamania following Isidro Díaz’s ouster from office – which also saw Colombian refugees arrive in Panama City – Americana Tobacco company founder José Bascom Menocal took up arms against Díaz’s government seeking independence for his countrymen living within Panamanian borders since 1811 when Granada had proclaimed independence from Spain under Captain Don Carlos Torrijos y Cámpora.
