Panama City, Florida is a city located in the state of Florida. The population was 1,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade County metropolitan area. The area that would become Panama City was first settled by Spanish colonists in 1513 as such name for what is now called La Vega de Panamá. In 1821, when Mexico gained independence from Spain, its Governor General Manuel Miranda issued a proclamation that all land east of the "Granada" river be given to the United States as part of Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This included what is now Panama City and much of southeastern Florida. The town charter was granted on December 12th, 1824 and it became an incorporated city on January 3rd, 1828. In 1861, during Confederate forces' attempt to cross into Seminole Territory through nearby Fort Myers they were successful in capturing and burning most of Panama City including its municipal courthouse which still stands today (added to the National Registerof Historic Places in 1984). As result of this event many residents fled or were forced out as Confederate troops burned their homes and stores west of I-4; however, most returned home soon afterthe battle ended. The first post office opened in 1865 with ZIP code 33801 being developed specifically formail service from Panama City to Kissimmee within Sanford postal district #2A & B - both areas then being served by US Postmaster General Amos Kendall’s mail wagon system along SR 352 between Sanford and Kissimmee Lakes Roads - making these areas also within present day Miami-Dade County annexed on April 16th 1889 when Broward County was created from parts of Palm Beach & Gainesville Counties following Ulysses S Grant’s victory over Andrew Johnson’s: “ ...the last act [becoming] effective becomes really important because it shows our government controlled everything east across Lake Okeechobee until we got control over Tampa Bay back around 1901 when we annexed St Petersburg/Clearwater...This annexation also left us behind economically so we had to start looking for ways to get back into business." From here things quickly took off for Panama City with rapid growth due largely to its location minutes away from two major airports (and later international ones), its natural resources (including oil wells) and booming tourism industry which continues today thanks in part to an expanding casino industry which has madePanamaCity one of America's leading gambling destinations

Panama City, Florida is located in Miami-Dade County, Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. The city was founded by Spanish colonists in 1795 as part of the Louisiana Purchase and became a U.S. territory in 1898. It was purchased from Spain by John D. Rockefeller in 1912 and renamed Panama City after his yacht, the Panama Limited, which had been wrecked off the coast of Nicaragua that year. The city was reincorporated as a municipality on February 15, 1914 and has since grown to over 120,000 residents. The history of Panama City begins with its founding as part of the Louisiana Purchase on October 16, 1795. As part of this deal, Spain ceded land east of Spanish Fort including what is now Miami-Dade County and parts of Pensacola and St Petersburg counties to United States President George Washington during his visit to Tampa Bay on October 26th that year. The city's first settlers were Spaniards who arrived in 1795 during the American Revolution to establish a military post threatening British control over Jamaica Plain (now Downtown). The original name for the town - San Pedro de la Macoris - was changed to Panama City after it was discovered by Captain Manuel Noriega while sailing through Central America looking for new land to settle following victory over British Forces at Puerto Rico’s Battle of Lasuenada on November 1st 1794. Construction began on what would become known as Town Hall Square early in 1800 under leadership of Mayor Francisco Juana de la Vega who served until 1802 when he was replaced by José Antonio Peña Nieto who held office until 1814 when he resigned due to illness before taking office himself as Vice President under John Adams – making him one of only two Americans ever elected president from Mexico (the other being James K Polk). By 1815 Pedro Santana y Valdés had purchased 2/3rds interest in La Casa Blanca Cigar Company with intent upon developing it into an inland port but construction never proceeded beyond purchasing land near present day Brickell Avenue and SW First Street because no money could be raised from investors despite promises made by De la Vega or Santana y Valdés themselves; instead they sold their stake back to Santana y Valdés just weeks before he died suddenly at age 49 while still majority owner without having built a single building within the fledgling center district namesake today’s downtown area less than one block away from where he had once resided next door–the very square currently occupied by One PanAm Plaza facing Brickell Avenue across Interstate 95 three blocks south east corner past current site duPont Park all resulting from attempts at commercial development funded largely through state tax dollars directed towards downtown services rather than developing productive real estate adjacent thereto notwithstanding efforts heretofore exerted throughout this volume attempting thereby also hereby… [but] not achieving
