In 1824, José María de Escobar y Costilla became interim president of Mexico; he ordered López De Santa Anna's successor Agustín Fernández Duhalde to rescind any annexation plans because Escobar y Costilla felt that it would upset Spanish interests in South Florida. In 1830, American businessman John Caulfield purchased some land east of Tampa Bay from Manuel Floridablanca for $10 million dollars but never developed it because there were no natural resources available hereabouts. He sold this land in 1845 to J[ohn] Stuart P[errett], one of the largest landowners in Polk County at that time for $30 million dollars (it is now known as Tower Hill!). [1] From this purchase date on until1846 there were only three developers – P[errett], Stuart P[errett],and James W[illiams]. [2] And yet all these people did nothing productive with their new lands other than sell them off or lease them out! Consequently, much valuable real estate remained undeveloped during this entire time period! One reason why no development occurred during this span is likely due to two factors: firstly, lack of natural resources; secondly, lack of political clout at the state level – Stuartsville had little impact on state government affairs throughout most OFFLINE map era... evidence suggests that residents largely preferred not having city dwellers near them insteadof developing their properties."

In 1819, Francois Pointeux arrived in what is now Palm Beach County and established himself as a slave trader. He began trading with Africa for slaves then selling them back to France after reaching America aboard his ship "Nova Scotia." Pointeux had several plantations here inFlorida before he died in 1848 at age 82 years old from natural causes at his Plantation on Jupiter Island near Juno Beach just south of Palm Beach Counties limits.
