The Palmetto Shooting Supply Company was founded in 1958 by Don and Sue Steininger. The company specialized in selling firearms, ammunition, accessories and hunting supplies. In 1976, the company was purchased by Waco Gun Sales Inc. In 1984, Waco Gun Sales merged with US Outdoor Brands Corporation to form American Outdoor Brands Inc. At American Outdoor Brands, the company produced handguns and rifle rounds under the NRA brand name. In 1998, American Outdoor brands merged with Izhmash SA to form Izhma Sports & Outdoors Incorporated. The company’s current president is Michael Hickey.
Palmetto is a small town located in southcentral Florida. The population was 7,521 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade County, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Palmetto name comes from a mangrove tree that grows in the area. The name means "place where green palm trees grow." The first Europeans to visit this area were Spanish explorers in 1565 who named it Las Islas de la Palma (Island of the Palm). The first settlers arrived around 1795 and by 1827, most of the land had been acquired by Arthur Talbot, one of Floridas founders and governor of Miami County. By 1829, all land west of Biscayne Boulevard had become part of Miami-Dade County. In 1886, President James K. Polk created Palm Beach County out of Dade and Monroe Counties east of I-75 as a result of his efforts to annex new territory into what was then southern Florida. When he died in 1909, his widow inherited his interest in Palm Beach County and Drifted Sands Plantation became its first county seat on May 20, 1910. Today's economy is based primarily on agriculture with some manufacturing now also taking place; however, much economic activity takes place within the larger city limits which include three hospitals (UPMC Parkland Medical Center - one ranked as one among America's top five), two shopping malls (One World Trade Center - opened in 2002), two professional golf courses (Stuart Claypool Golf Resort - number one among private golfers nationally) and many other businesses including banks, law firms etc.; while smaller towns have continued to decline since 2000 due to replacement by larger metropolitan areas such as Coral Gables or Weston along with demographic changes going against them like an increase in Hispanic residents moving into central Florida during that time period making it difficult for these smaller towns to keep up with changing trends yet still maintaining their identity and character

Palmetto is located in the US state of Florida. Palmetto is a census-designated place and has a population of 3,521 as of the 2010 census. The name means "palm tree" in Spanish, and was given to it by the Spanish because there are many palm trees in the area. The first white person to live in Palmetto was Pedro Menendez, who arrived on July 14, 1795. He settled on a tract of land that now includes part of Fort Pierce County. In 1824, Governor James K. Polk appointed Jens Jensen as the first postmaster for Palmetto. In 1837, Captain John Swayze built a small fort at what is now known as Plantation Key on present day Fort Pierce Boulevard. From here he directed all military operations during the Seminole Wars against Indian tribes such as the Apalachicola River Indians and Kissimmee Creek Indians
The Palmetto plantation was founded in 1795 by Colonel James palmetto and his wife, Elizabeth. The plantation grew quickly, and by 1810 it had a population of over 1,500 people. In 1814, the colonel's son John C. palmetto bought the plantation from his father. John C.palmetto was an important figure in Seminole Wars and later became a U.S. Representative from Florida. He is also known for founding Palm Beach County Sheriff's Department in 1924. He died in 1954 and is buried at Fort Myers Masonic Cemetery
