When the first white settlers arrived in Palmetto County in 1835, they were met with hostility and discrimination. The county was then known as Seminole Indian Territory. The first European to set foot on what is now Palmetto County was James Cook, who landed on the island of Saint Augustine on December 3, 1793. Cook named the area Tampa Bay after his native town in England. In 1839, some German farmers started a sugar cane plantation near what is now Ponte Vedra Beach. They needed a means of transporting their product so they built a railroad from Tampa to St Petersburg and then east to Plantation Key on the mainland. This allowed them to sell their sugar cane at a lower price than if it had been transported by boat or wagon from Cuba or Venezuela. When the first white post office was established in St Petersburg in 1841, it was named for Captain John Clifton, an Englishman who had served as officer of marines during Florida’s War of Independence (1811-1812). The original building still stands today and is used as headquarters for the Sheriff’s Department. After slavery ended in America in 1865, many African Americans began migrating to Florida looking for new opportunities. One group that made this transition was the Seminoles – an all-black tribe thatlived within Seminole Indian Territory until 1840 when they were relocated to present-day Tallahassee County . When white supremacists started stirring up racism against Black people throughout much of America following Reconstruction (1865-1877), they felt especially threatened by these groups of Africans living among them peacefully and successfully integrating into American society . In response, Confederate General Robert E Lee ordered his men to burn down several black churches across Florida during Easter week 1865 – an event known as “The cleansing of Palmettos” . After this egregious act by Confederate forces against innocent civilians, President Andrew Johnson ordered Ulysses S Grant to Troop D at Gainesville (in present day Jacksonville) instead of moving southward towards Raleigh because he feared similar violence would occur there should Grant reach Tallahassee . Consequently, White Floridians experienced one of the most peaceful periods in American history between 1865-1913; however , things never really changed back home until recent times when neo-Nazis/alt right extremists have exhibited rampant hatred and bigotry towards any minority community

Palmetto, Florida is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 16,581 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Palmetto is located on the Gulf of Mexico and has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification Cfa). The name "Palmetto" derived from the word palmettos which are naturalized trees found throughout much of South America and parts of Africa. The first European to sight evidence of these trees in this area was Giovanni da Verrone in 1542. A sugar plantation called "Pinecrest" was established by John D'Urso in 1768 near present day Palmetto City. In 1834 Major General James Wilkinson sold land for $3,000 to Isaac Brockman who founded Palmetto Key Lighthouse on what is now known as Flagler Beach Boulevard east of State Road 508/1A (now US 1A) . The first post office opened in 1853, but it closed soon after because it took so long for telegraph lines to be built from Tampa to Palm Beach County! In 1912 a sawmill operated by J.M. Hargrave started making posts and wire mesh baskets out of palmetto leaves which were used for fishing gear until 1937 when they switched to using Brazilian hardwood pulp boards! After World War II the sawmill stopped production due to low demand while other businesses such as grocery stores flourished including becoming one of the most vibrant areas outside Downtown Miami during that time! Currently there are three businesses operating out of PalmetTO; two restaurants named Joe's Crab Shack & Donnie's Backyard BBQ with over 20 years combined experience and regular customers coming here not only for their food but also their atmosphere and value proposition! What makes this place even more amazing is that all three businesses have been around since BEFORE THE MIDDLE OF LAST DECADE!!! We can think back decades and see examples that should clinch your decision – like when Joe's Crab Shack started offering free shrimp dinner every Thursday night starting as early as 1984!!!!! When we talk about history here at Joe's you know we're talking about something special right? After our extensive research into local lore we realized that there wasn't just one business mentioned above – each restaurant had its own story behind them; something unique both customer-side AND restaurateurs-side alike! But no matter what story you hear or read about any given restaurant it still comes down to good food and great service... nothing can touch THAT feel good factor!!!!

The city experienced some tough times during the Civil War but eventually recovered from its damage. In 1865, it became part of Jacksonville before being annexed into Tallahassee in 1907 as part of that citys growth. Today, Palmetto is still a popular tourist destination with many people visiting each year for various reasons including its beautiful architecture, historical significance, and delicious food options.
The Palmetto, Florida area was first populated by the Timucua people in the late 16th century. The area became part of Spanish Florida after independence from Spain in 1763. In 1821, the United States acquired Florida from Spain and renamed it for General James K. Polk, who had won the presidential election that year. The Palmetto region became a part of South Carolina after that state gained its independence from South Carolina in 1868.
