After he died in 1901, ownership passed through various families until it finally reverted back to George Bogan's wife Alice Carnahan Bogan in 1954 when he bequeathed it to her heirs male and female joint custody with full power over all decisions about management including housing development etc., until their deaths or incapacity; during that time it also functioned as an agricultural research station run by the US Air Force with leased land near present day Powerhouse Village Shopping Center off SW 16th Street between NE 2nd Avenue and NW 8th Avenue In 1969 Pinellas County purchased 137 acres zoned for agriculture along SW 16th Street from Alice Carnahan Bogan's heirs/ assigns for use as an airport hangar expansion project called "Pinellas County Airport". Today this area includes most of Palmetto proper with some commercial development scattered aroundSW 10th Avenue east of US1 (the original site). In 1957, JCPenney division moved from Charlotte, North Carolina to Jacksonville, Florida and became part of Sears Roebuck & Co., now Sears Holdings Inc.
