The area that is now Palmetto Bay, Florida was first settled by Native Americans in the late 1500’s. By 1800, the area had become a part of Spanish Florida. It wasn’t until 1821 when American soldiers reached Palmetto Bay and began to explore the region for potential land acquisitions. The soldiers discovered an abundance of saltpeter and lead ore in the area, which led to the development of a new industry in this region- ammunition production. Ammunition production began in earnest on October 15th, 1821 with a small company established by Lieutenant Colonel George Hennepin. The company produced horse artillery shells and musket balls at a yard near present day Jacksonville. By 1830, ammunition production had become so important to Spanish Florida that they decided to establish their own factory in Tampa. This factory produced cannonballs and rifle rounds as well as cannon projectiles made from lead, saltpeter, and other materials. However, due to economic conditions within Spanish Florida at this time, ammunition production came to a standstill around 1840. It wasn’t until 1861 that American forces invaded Spanish Florida and were able to oust the last Spaniards from their territory-resulting in Palmetto Bay becoming part of the United States of America. This event marks one of history’s biggest milestones for Palmetto Bay as it became one of America’s most heavily populated regions for over two centuries! The Palmetto Bay region of Florida is located in the southeastern corner of the United States and includes both Palm Beach County and Broward County. The population of Palm Beach County was 1,642,594 as of the 2010 census, while Broward County had a population of 2,156,721. The name Palmetto Bay may be derived from two local words: palmetto (a type of palm) and bay. The Calliopsis palmettoiana trees that grow along the coast are often used to make umbrellas or protect against dehydration during high-water season. Both counties were established in 1868 when Florida became a state. At first they were part of Miami-Dade County, which was then divided into three parts: North Miami-Dade (later Wynwood), South Miami-Dade (later Fort Lauderdale), and East Broward (later Davie). However, by 1912 East Broward had become separate from Broward and was annexed by Palm Beach County. Palm Beach began to flourish as a resort town due to its close proximity to Atlantic City. In 1893 construction began on what is now known as the Fairmont White Sands Resort on 15 miles north of downtown Palm Beach. This hotel would later become one of the most luxurious addresses in all of America with over 2 million guests annually came through its doors between 1893 and 1975. In 1926 Palmetto Bay Press published its first issue which helped start what would eventually be called American conservatism within Palm Beach County’s Republican Party hierarchy; it remains an important publication today serving as an outlet for conservative opinion within the county even though it no longer prints newspapers inbrevetted with that title

In 1892, the Palmetto Bay Company was founded by a group of businessmen from Daytona Beach. The company developed and leased land in what is now Palmetto Bay. In 1924, the company merged with another business, the Seminole Bay Company. The new company lease properties inPalmetto Bay from local landowners for development into homes and businesses. The first houses were built on lands that were donated to the company by local citizens. Over time, more and more people moved to Palmetto Bay and began using its resources for their own needs. Today, Palmetto Bay is known as an important hub for maritime commerce in Florida. A number of events led to increased growth and development in Palmetto Bay over the years: In 1926, King George V designated Palm Beach County as a major seaside resort area; this opened up new opportunities for businesses in town. In 1951, Interstate 95 was completed along the waterfront at Palm Beach International Airport; this gave residents access to all sorts of new shopping and dining options near downtown Palm Beach. In 1976, Hurricane Andrew destroyed much of downtown Palm Beach; this forced developers to start again with plans much larger than they had initially envisioned. However, due to community support through fundraising efforts and donations from individuals and organizations throughout town, reconstruction proceeded quickly and efficiently – making Palm Beach one of America’s most resilient communities after hurricanes Katrina (2005) or Sandy (2012).
The Palmetto Bay area of Florida was first inhabited by the Kissimmee tribe. The area now includes the city of Fort Myers and portions of Sarasota and Lee County. The region was first known for its rich phosphate resources, which were used to make coins, hats, and other items. By 1800, the area had become a center for citrus farming. In 1821, the United States acquired Florida from Spain as part of the Treaty of Paris following the American Revolution. A year later, Congress established Seminole Indian Territory in this area. In 1836, James Kellett developed land in what is now Fort Myers along Palm Beach Boulevard. This land became known as Kellett's Key because it was one of several key landing points for American troops during the Mexican-American War. In 1849, Kellett sold his land to JB Stuart & Co., a group of investors that included Colonel John Crainer and Isaac Simms. At this time, Fort Myers became an important commercial center on Tampa Bay due to its location at a natural choke point between Tampa Bay and Spanish Lake
