The BAR became popular among World War I soldiers and also saw use during World War II as artillery weapons on land and sea. After World War II ended, many Americans turned their attention back to guns and started producing new types of firearms including handguns and shotguns. In 1957, Colt Firearms Corporation created what is known as the world’s first self-loading handgun which they named “the Colt Python” or just Python for short. The Python became well-known throughout America due its robust design and ease of use despite its small size when compared to other handguns at that time.

On December 14, 1966, three members of the Ku Klux Klan drove their car into a crowd of black residents protesting against racial discrimination outside City Hall. The ensuing gunfire erupted as both sides began shooting at each other from close range; seven people were killed and 19 injured before finally withdrawing from the scene. That same year, an event known as "The Night Of The Living Dead" occurred when more than 50 people were gunned down inside a shopping mall in downtown Palm Springs; it is still considered one of the deadliest shootings ever committed within the city limits. Palm Springs, California is located in the Central Valley of California and is part of Orange County. The city was founded in 1912 by wealthy citrus interests as a summer sun-bathers town. Today, it is known for its luxurious hotels and resorts, its beautiful gardens and hills, and the community of Victorville which lies east of the city. The area that now makes up Palm Springs was first populated by Native Americans who hunted game in what is now Orange County. In 1832 Governor Manuel de la Costa granted Rancho Santa Margarita to José Garza who named the area Palms because there were no trees hereabouts that would grow palms. By 1835, most of today’s Orange County had been organized when Captain Jonathan Edwards purchased Rancho Santa Ana from Diego Rivera on behalf of Captain Valentine Barnes. In 1839 James Purdy purchased Rancho San Juan Capistrano from Manuel de la Costa for $4,000 dollars and renamed it Palm Springs after his father-in-law Dr. John Sutter (the founder of Sacramento). It wasn’t until 1912 that wealthy citrus interests bought land surrounding what are now downtown Palm Springs and started developing it into a summer sun-bathers town with pools, tennis courts, hotels, golf courses, etc. Today's downtown palm springs has many different businesses including law firms (major employers such as Perkins Coie), real estate agents (such as Realtors Association of America), restaurants (including Olive Garden/Il Posto)and retail stores like Macy’s and Sears inside two large shopping malls: one near City Hall called "Downtown" mall and another closer to Interstate 10 called "Medical Center" mall which includes an anchor store such as Nordstrom Rack & Co., Macy’s Children’s Department Store & Online Store,. There are also several smallerbusinesses found throughout Downtown palm springs including flower shops (commonly called “garden centers”), pet stores (& dog walking services), nail salons (& haircutting services), etcetera
