Palm Coast, Florida is a small town located on the Gulf of Mexico in the state of Florida. The population was 8,992 at the 2010 census. Palm Coast is known for its white sand beaches, blue waters and warm climate. The area was first settled by Spaniards in the early 1800s and soon became a trading post between Spanish America and Africa. At one time, Palm Coast was home to over 60 plantations. Today, most of Palm Coast's buildings are used as vacation rentals or commercial properties. The name "Palm Coast" comes from an ancient Indian word meaning "place where palms grow." The original inhabitants of this area were Arawaks who called this place xalapa (meaning "shoreline"). In 1821, General James Kenedy transferred land owned by his father-in-law, Dade County Judge John Cephus Polk to Colonel John Bogue for settlement by Europeans as part of the U.S.-Spanish War against Napoleon Bonaparte. After losing much territory in Cuba to France during that war, Spain ceded control over Florida to the United States in 1813. As a result of this treaty, American settlers began arriving in large numbers to what is now Palm Coast during the mid-19th century. In 1912, three brothers - Sam Henningsen (1872-1945), Harry Henningsen (b 1927) and Roy Henningsen (1915-) - founded J&H Sales Company on Beaches Boulevard near State Road originally named after their father Harry Janssen Sr., who had earlier established Janssen & Sons Auctioneers at 511 Estero Street adjacent to Fort Myers’ Balboa Park Race Track before moving its operations across Bayfront Drive into what is now downtown Miami Beach on May 1st 1920! This company quickly became well-known throughout both South Florida and North America for selling just about everything but autos! They eventually merged with several other dealerships forming The Automobile Dealers Association which still operates today as “The Automotive Marketplace”! By 1945 they had closed all their stores except one at Hollywood Bowl Shopping Center! What happened next is probably best documented through oral history: On October 15th 1945 while employees were unloading cargo from a truck stopped at gunpoint on I-95 southbound near Exit 202 Suncoast Freeway by local law enforcement officers responding to complaints about illegal aliens being loaded onto the truck there suddenly appeared out of nowhere two short bald men dressed like GI’s brandishing handguns!! One agent fired four rounds into air creating an immediate explosion that destroyed both vehicles providing cover for our escape!!! All five occupants Survived including future Governor Lawton Chiles who later described it as one ofthe most terrifying moments of his life When you think about it these days 40 years later some people might say those two guys waving guns around were only trying To scare everyone away but back then it was pretty alarming especially when you know these things can happen It also created quite a sensation statewide with newspapers coming out with articles such as “Are These Aliens?” And many more such stories that continue down memory lane today!

The town of Palm Coast, Florida was founded by the Spanish in 1765. The name was derived from the word palma, meaning palm. The town became a United States territory in 1821 and an official city in 1868. The population of Palm Coast grew rapidly after its incorporation as a city, reaching 100,000 by 1880. The Panic of 1893 led to a decline in the local economy, however, and Palm Coast experienced another period of decline during the 1920s and 1930s. In recent years, however, the town has regained some of its former prosperity through development of its commercial and cultural infrastructure.
In 1881, the first white settlers arrived on Palm Coast from Georgia. The town was named after Captain James A. Walton, a naval officer who had explored and mapped what is now Florida in the mid-18th century. In 1907, Palm Coast became one of five towns in Florida organized as the Citrus County Agricultural Experiment Station. The station was created to promote agricultural production in Citrus County by conducting research into factors affecting crop yields and soil health. Palm Coast remained an agricultural community until the early 1950s, when automobiles began to arrive on Palm Coast and other citrus-growing areas in southern Florida. This led to a shift in economic activity away from agriculture and toward tourism and services.
