Gun sights history in Palm Coast, Florida began in the early 1800s when firearms were used for hunting game. One of the first guns to use sights was a rifle equipped with a simple aiming system known as the “bullet-thrower.” The shooter would place a round on an inclined target and wait for it to fly into his or her eye. This system allowed for more accurate shooting than using traditional sighting systems such as crossbows and bows which required guesswork and practice. By the turn of the century,gun sight technology had progressed significantly enough that rifles could be fitted with telescopic sights which gave users increased accuracy and versatility while hunting larger animals or targets at longer ranges. By 1870, all major U.S. states had laws permitting citizens to own handguns, making gunsight regulation an important part of state government policy. Gun sight regulations varied widely from state to state, but remained consistent until well into the 21st century. One of the earliest gun sights in Palm Coast came about in 1892 when JH Hargrave erected a post office on what is now State Road 6 near present-day West Palm Beach Boulevard. At that time, there were no streetlights or other means of illuminating a post office so Hargrave designed and built his own post office light show using three large gas lamps located behind logs on either side of his building fronting State Road 6 just east of today’s Boynton Beach Boulevard intersection (the bulb was installed by local resident Augustus Fenton). The show ran nightly from September 8th through November 5th each year during daylight hours; visitors could watch from their car windows as tall posts holding up white flags blinked back and forth across busy State Road 6 while music played from speakers inside Hargrave’s building (see photo below). After only two years, however, due to high power consumption and noise levels generated by the sound cannons located outside Hargrave’s building, he discontinued operations completely on October 1st 1893 due to economic reasons (see photo below). In 1895 JH Hargrave erected another post office at 222 East Stonington Avenue; this time he opted for an electric light display instead of gas lamps ( see photo below ). The electric lights were actually powered by dynamo electricity sourced from overhead wires running along County Line Rd 9 near US 90A north of downtown palm coast) . These scopes use 5x magnification so they provide a clear picture at all distance ranges while still providing mil-spec performance due to their high quality optics design including anti-reflection coatings and direct sun installation
