His shop was the first to sell airguns legally in Florida. Sperry's store was also where many of the early pioneers in the industry learned how to operate and maintain their guns. After Harry Sperry's death in 1951, his son John took over operations of the store and continued to sell handguns and other firearms until 1978 when it closed its doors forever. The popularity of airguns has never faded away, even though they are now generally considered less dangerous than traditional firearms. Palm Beach Gardens, Florida is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 11,876 at the 2010 census. The city was founded on November 10, 1886 by Colonel Julius Schwartz and Dr. George Wertheimer. It was named for Samuel P. Breuer, a German immigrant who had come to America in 1852 as part of the Gold Rush and become an early leader of American banking and real estate interests.Breuer's nephew Julius Schwartz donated land for the city limits in 1893. In 1909, Palmbear Gardens became a registered town with its own governance structure under the Municipal Charter Act of 1909. On December 1, 1912–the day after New York City'sindexed palm oil futures contracts were first offered to investors—the town voted to annex Palm Beach County as its new political jurisdiction; it did so without prejudice to its previous status as a separate municipality with its own police department and zoning regulations.[1] In 1916 the United States bought all of what is now Miami-Dade County from Spain for $10 million (less than 2% of what it would cost eventually). As part of that purchase, Congress enacted Section 7406 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1920 which provided money for U.S.–owned military installations in coastal counties "purchased or leased" by other governments during World War I or during any time "in which such county has been gained through conquest or acquisition by the United States." The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) leased Palmbear Gardens from Miami-Dade County on October 15, 1923,[2][3][4] giving birth to NBC Radio station WPBF (AM 540 kHz; currently WWJZ 1050 kHz).[5][6] That station served as PALM BEACH GARDENS' initial commercial broadcaster until WEAF AM 860 kHz came on line in 1951.[7][8] At first only English language programming aired from PALM BEACH GARDENS' studios at One Herald Place but soon Spanish Language service also began[9]. Also during this period many famous entertainers made their debut appearances here including Frank Sinatra,[10][11], Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin,[12],[13] Lena Horne[14],[15], Bing Crosby[16], Bob Hope[17], Jackie Gleason,[18], Artie Shaw,[19],[20] Milton Berle and Ethel Merman while also beginning their careers here including Jerry Lee Lewis,[21],[22][/source] On January 5th 1960 WPBF turned over control of their transmitter site – located atopbrowndoorsceneryofPALM BEACH GARDENS–to CBS Radio Corporation effective February 1st 1960 under Construction Agreement Number K0005C signed by both partiesGerald Ford becoming President that year [23]. On May 21st 1966 ABC Radio Networks Incorporated (now ABC News Network) took ownership of WPBF following FCC approval Of Its application For A License To Operate A Television Station In Local Time With The Name Of “ABCMiami” Which WasTo Be LocatedAtTheBeachfrontOfPalmBeachGardens——andOnThatDate allocatedAndIssuedABroadcasters licenseForTheTVStationAsItIsNow Known.—ThisTVstationMeantToBeYourNeighborhood TVChannelThatsEquivalent ToToday’sABC NewsNetworkTelevisionstationInDenver Colo.—AlsoOnThatDate WTC collapsed killing Approximately 175 people & leaving over 3000 people injured [24]. UPN acquired WPBF along with sister stations WBBM(AM 780 kHz), WLKY(FM 95.5 MHz), WWJZ(AM 970 kHz) And WBJS(FM 92.3 MHz) From ABC Radio Networks Incorporated On July 16th 1997 For $675 Million . All four stations are now known as Fox owned-and-operated stations outside OF THE UNITED STATES

palm beach gardens history began on january 25, 1902 when the family of two brothers, david and benjamin palmer bought 3 acres of land at the corner of palm beach avenue and jackson road. The original home that was built on this site was called the Palmer House. The Palmers entertained many dignitaries such as president westbrook hoover, prime minister canova, and others in their home during their early years in palm Beach Gardens. In 1916, they sold the house to james monroe who kept it until his death in 1948. It then passed through several hands before being purchased by herbert barton who lived there until his death in 1976. In 1984 it was purchased by david nelson who kept it until his death in 1986. Then it passed through a few more owners before being acquired by michael porterfield who currently lives there.
