Palm Bay is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Palm Bay is on the shore of Biscayne Bay and has access to the Everglades National Park. The first Europeans to visit Palm Bay were Giovanni da Verrazano and his crew in 1565 when they mapped out what is now Miami-Dade County. Captain John Smith also visited in 1608 while exploring what is now Tampa bay. In 1763 Lieutenant Governor James Kapp established Fort Moultrie on Race Island near present day PalmBay with cannons to monitor trade with Havana, Cuba. At this time there were only six white people living in PalmBay: four farmers and two fishermen who farmed shrimp and fished for fish off their dockside homes; one blacksmith; and one man who did some carpentry work for local families until he died young in 1827. A post office was established at PalmBay in 1834, but it never took off due to lack of mail service from FtMoultrie or because residents didn't want their name put on mailboxes as part of the Indian Removal Act of 1830 which led to most white European Americans moving out of Florida during that era In 1861 a group of Seminole Indians known as the "Greene Brothers" killed nine whites near present day Hollywood beach after raiding a plantation near hereabouts; three days later another band attacked two other plantations including one where George Washington's father (and my grandfather) lived before they were neutralized by Confederate forces under General Robert E Lee during the American Civil War – resulting an official apology from President Lincoln shortly thereafter During World War II many Naval personnel stationed at FtMoultrie learned how to build submarines, plane carriers and other naval vessels at this location before being drafted into service during America's war effort – eventually becoming known as "Marine Corps Base Clearwater" today After Hurricane Andrew destroyed much of downtown palm bay on September 13th 1992,[1] Mayor Joe Fernandez proposed turning palm bay into a marine park providing visitor amenities such as restrooms, showers, boat ramps etc., which would include public access since then . palm bay, florida was founded in 1819 by Captain John M. Stroud and his crew of the brig "Palm Bay". The town was named for a small island near the mouth of the bay. The first recorded inhabitants of Palm Bay were Indian traders and pirates who frequented the area during the 1800s. In 1819, Captain John M. Stroud sailed into Palm Bay with seven other boats to establish a trade post on an islet called Boca Raton. He named the islet after his home island, Palmyra Island, in Scotland. The first permanent settler in Palm Bay was James Purdy who arrived in 1832. Purdy built a log cabin onsite and began trading with local natives. The town gradually grew around him, becoming known as one of Florida's most important trading posts. In 1846, Governor Keyes ordered all Seminole Indians living east of Lake Okeechobee removed to meet at Fort whitehead on Florida's border with Texas A&M University (now West Florida State University). After much argument and violence, about 1,000 Seminole men including many women and children finally left their homes on horseback for Fort Whitehead on May 10th under Colonel David Hunter's command. They were taken by boat downriver to Tampa where they were landed at Camp Robinson across from what is now Shinnecock Hills golf course

It is part of the Tampa–St. Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Palm Bay was George Washington Carver, who arrived in 1881. He and his family built a log cabin on what is now US-1 south of town. Carver's farmstead still stands today and is a museum dedicated to him and his legacy. In 1905, citrus fruit farmer Waddell Crouch founded Crouch Citrus Growers Cooperative which became one of the leading citrus growers in Florida During World War II, Palm Bay became one of seven towns in Santa Rosa County to receive government aid for war production purposes including munitions manufacturing plants. After the war ended, many businesses closed but Crouch reopened as an agricultural dealership selling produce from his land until his death in 1984
