The first firearms in Palatka, Florida were handguns. In 1875, a man by the name of John C. Goodwin bought land on North Bayou Street and began to operate a gunsmithing business. The first rifles were made from wood and the first shotguns in 1889. A store was built on State Road 9 in 1903 and it is still in use today as the Palatka Police Department’s Central Office.
Palatka, Florida is a small town in the U.S. state of Florida. It is located in Palm Beach County and has a population of about 12,000 people as of the 2010 census. The name Palatka comes from "Palatan" or "Punta Cana," which was a Spanish settlement on the island of Puerto Rico that was abandoned in 1847 by American settlers because they did not want to give up their phosphate holdings on the island. The first permanent settler in Palatka was James Laughlin, who built his home on what is now First Street in 1849. In 1861, Captain Wm. Humes founded Fort Humes here with twenty-six men and four guns to protect against possible Indian attack. By 1865, Fort Humes had been replaced by Fort Myers after it became clear that Cuba would not allow American warships to enter its waters to possess phosphate cargoes off her coast. In 1876, James Gadsden purchased some land east of present-day Fourth Street for $1,000 and began developing it into what is now known as Gadsden Parkland Agricultural Reserve; this area included much of what are today downtown Palatka and parts of Third Avenue and Third Street today were developed as part of that parkland development. The first post office in Palatka was established at Gadsden Parkland on April 14, 1876; named for General James Gadsden (1784-1851), who served as governor of Florida from 1840 until his death at age 62 due to yellow fever pandemic sweeping through Tampa Bay during those years. On November 30, 1886, Donelson County was organized from portions of Broward County east thereof including most of Palm Beach County excepting Land’s End where Judge John Easley had granted title December 26th ultimo to Abee & Cook under section 3d(c) Folsom Purchase with full payment having been made before issuance). On January 1st 1907 Donelson County extended southward one mile (1 kilometer) along Goodyear Road (now US 1) through agricultural areas lying within its limits thenceforth styled “Gadsden Parkland”: said county boundaries were further enlarged by adding territory lying northwardly within Broward Municipality including all or part thereof lying westwardly or bordering Miami Lakes No

In the 12th century, a man named Ibn al-Haytham created a new type of firearm called an arquebus. This weapon was very efficient and became very popular in warfare. In 1892, the first settlers of Palatka, Florida were Peter and Emma Kapp. They founded a small farming community on the north bank of the St. Johns River. The Kapps were among the early pioneers in what would become Palatka County. The town was named for Captain James Palatka, an American Revolutionary War hero and naval officer who fought at Battle of Bunker Hill and Battle of Yorktown. At its peak, Palatka had a population of 100 people. However, within three years, all but 10 of those residents had left for economic reasons or because they grew sickly from bad air quality in Jacksonville. By the time World War I started in 1914,Palatka had only 5 residents and no businesses to support them. With few resources at his disposal, Captain Palatka decided to offer free land to anyone who could build a house on it- regardless of race or ethnicity. This policy helped start what would be known as white flight from Jacksonville during that time period: African Americans began moving out of Jacksonville for similar amenities and opportunities available only outside their city limits
In the early 1800s, Palatka, Florida was a small community on the Gulf of Mexico about 25 miles southeast of Pensacola. The town located on what is now State Road 10 was named for General James K. Polk and his wife Emma in 1885. In 1907, the first phosphate mine in south Alabama opened near Palatka and production lasted until 1912 when it closed due to low prices. A second mine followed in 1916 but also produced poor results. By 1922, only a few homes remained in the community and by 1925 all that remained were foundations and an abandoned post office building.
