In 1851, a magazine company was founded in Palatka by Colonel John Sibley. In 1865, Colonel Sibley passed away, leaving his company and manufacturing facilities to his son-in-law, Major James Halsey. Halsey continued production of gun magazines until 1892 when he sold the business to George Wickersham. Wickersham's company manufactured different types of rifle and shotgun magazine rounds until 1902 when he merged with another magazine manufacturer, Dickson & Co., creating what is now known as Browning Arms Company. From 1903 through 1916, Browning Arms Company produced handgun magazines under various names including Colt Magazines and Lake City Armory Publications Incorporated (later known as American Rifle Works). During this time period, Browning Arms Company also developed the first airgun magazine design – the .22 caliber Air Gun Magazine (AGM). Browning Arms Company ceased production of handgun magazines in 1916 but continued production of rifle/shotgun magazine rounds until 1935 when all operations were transferred to the new Springfield Armory location in Springfield Township, Illinois. From 1935 through 1974, Springfield Armory manufactured handgun mags under various brand names such as Colt Magazines America Incorporated (CMA), Remington & Sons USA Inc., Savage Arms Corp., Winchester Repeating Arms Corporation (WRAC), Steyr AUG AGM/ACP Magazine Manufacturing Division (SAAMD) and Bushmaster Firearms Manufacturing Corporation (BHM). Beginning in 1975lessness firearm mag development took place at Springfield Armory with contributions from several other companies before finally closing down shop in 1984. Today Piston Press produces pistol mags at the old Springfield Armory location while Stoner Solis manufactures rifle/shotgun mags out of an old GM plant located north of town on Interstate 95

Palatka, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 3,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Palatka was first settled by German immigrants in 1835. In 1868, it became a portion of Hillsborough County and then Palm Beach County. On January 1, 1907, Palatka incorporated as a city. The city was later annexed by Hillsborough County and renamed after one of its main streets - Palatka Avenue - in order to maintain its civic status quo while leaving Hillsborough unincorporated. One of the most significant events that took place in Palatka occurred on February 10, 1942 when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor with an attack that killed over 2,000 people and injured over 100 more. Over 60% of the buildings in town were destroyed or heavily damaged including many businesses which would not reopen until well into the 1950s due to their proximity to Pearl Harbor Naval Station and other military installations. On October 12th 2006 Palatka's Mayor Rick Pittman announced he would be running for office again next year against incumbent Bob Hickey who had been mayor since 2000

The Palatka post office was established in 1885 and the first store was built on the present site of the courthouse in 1888. The town became a city in 1912 and a state capital in 1932. In 1942, the town lost its state capital status when Tallahassee moved to Jacksonville, Florida.
