Palatka is a town in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,020 at the 2010 census. The name "Palatka" is derived from the Seminole word "palato". The first Europeans to visit what is now Palatka were Spanish soldiers on an expedition led by Hernando de Soto in 1540. A landing party of three men and their native guide, Manuel Industry, explored the coast of present-day Sarasota County on July 4, 1543. A second expedition under Governor Martin Vázquez de Ayala established Fort San Marcos on the east side of today's Palm Beach County on November 16, 1546. Captain Alonso Ponce de León discovered and named both Biscayne Bay and Palatka Island after his captain's trip there in 1506–07 while sailing for Spain as part of Admiral Pedro Menendez de Aviles' squadron northeast of Cuba. The first permanent European settlement was founded by Nicholas Antonio Fernandez in 1764 as Fort Santiago del Lago; it was destroyed by a fire that same year and replaced by an earlier structure called Fort Donelson which became known as Fort Worth about 1800 CE. In 1818 Congress created Polk County from parts of Osceola and Brevard Counties with its capital at Stonington; however no town or village was chartered until 1824 when Palatka was named after James Fenton Post (1792-1868), collector general for customs at Miami & Co., who had come to reside near the county seat several years before. He donated land comprising present day Palm Beach Gardens & Coral Gables to establish what would become Broward County; posthumously he has been honored with a state park within the city limits of Ft Lauderdale – making him one of only two people in Florida to be honored with such distinction (the other being Pee Dee Reed). In 1888, during construction on Marlinsphere Park on Jupiter Boulevard just north of First Street/Route 162 - then known as North Point Road - workers discovered human remains dating back over 2,000 years old buried beneath layers of sedimentary rock dating from that time period! No one knows for sure how long they've been there since then – but given that artifacts have also been found elsewhere along this stretch including inside some old power plants along Northeast 10th Avenue - it's safe to say they're pretty much still around! According to historian Dr. David Jaffe: "No sooner had developers started advertising 'Marlinsphere' than local historians began debunking any purported connection between baseball’s earliest roots and South Florida’s sunniest place." However evidence continues to accumulate that supports claims made by developers: research indicates that major league baseball did indeed develop here specifically thanks to JACKSONVILLE MARLINS players Eddie Collins (1884-1962)and Joe “Pit” Pena (1901-1969), plus manager Connie Mack (1914-2006) who played for two teams here inJacksonville during various times; moreover fans can argue up until today whether or not attendance figures at Jacksonville games actually reflect fan interest outside OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA rather than just those within county boundaries... Today Marlinsphere enjoys worldwide recognition as one halfhearted attempt by clueless adults trying hard not to understand something simpler than life itself trying desperately not TO look like idiots when doing things weirder than reality TV shows about us... It should come as no surprise then that many modern day Floridians feel awful having adjacent property dedicated exclusively to professional sports teams when so few people actually live anywhere near them... After all - if you're living close enough anyway you can see everything going down right outside your window! Additionally – Jacksonville city officials fully realized how popular Marlinsphere had become AND decided against building another MLB stadium close thereto… indicating either(1) SOMEONE really wanted THAT thing built/(2) somebody forgot how popular things are hereabouts pretty quickly these days? Anyway – without further ado let's get down To business!"

The Morrises also developed what is now known as Palm Beach County into one of Florida's most prosperous areas during this time period. During World War II,Palatka played an important role in providing winter quarters for military personnel stationed in Florida and other states across the nation. Many civilian workers also helped build bases at nearby Fort Myers and Clearwater before redeploying back home after hostilities ended in 1945.
