In 1836 James Kenedy built his plantation at Anahuac Bayou on present-day First Street in Oviedo and called it Kenedy's Landing after himself and President James Kenedy's brother-in-law William Henry Harrison who died while governor of New York City during the Mexican–American War (1846). On December 12th 1840 Jacksonville businessman John Crouch bought Kenedy's Landing from James Kenedy for $2,500 cash with 10 shares of stock worth $10 each.)
