Oviedo, Florida is home to the oldest gunsmith shop in the United States. The hammer History Museum was founded in 1984 by Oviedo Gunsmiths Association members Tom and Gayle Breen. It is now open to the public every day from 9am to 4pm. The museum has preserved many of the tools and equipment used by gunsmiths for over 160 years. This includes entire arsenals of hammers, stocks and triggers, chisels, planes, gouges and saws. There are also a number of original firearms on display including a Model 1851 Colt revolver that was used in an 1865 shootout at Fort Pickens. The Breen's have donated many of their collection items to other museums throughout the United States as well as Europe. The hammer History Museum is one of only a few U.S.-based museums with this type of collection!

Oviedo is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 12,752 at the 2010 census. Oviedo is located on the left bank of the Kissimmee River opposite Lake Okeechobee. It was founded in 1892 as a small farming community and incorporated as a city in 1907. The name comes from Spanish "oviedo" meaning "nose." The area that now Oviedo was first populated by Seminoles and Creek Indians who hunted and gatheredFloridian fruit trees were also grown here for export to Cuba and other parts of South America during this time period. A post office was established at Oviedo in 1892, and mail transportation began between the community and Jacksonville via boat. By 1907, there were over 100 businesses operating within the city limits including banks, grocery stores, schools (four public high schools plus one private school), hotels/motels, lumberyards/smelters and sawmills. In 1916 an experimental airfield called Fort Myers Army Airfield No. 1 was built north of town on land donated by Congressman John Posey deep in swamp near what is now Miramar Beach Boulevard; it served as an training ground for World War I American fighter pilots while also serving as a bombing range for military aircraft during World War II In 1948 Oviedo became part of the newly created state of Florida when it merged with all of Leon County including Jacksonville During much of its history as a small farming community Ozark residents supplemented their income by raising livestock or harvesting fruit crops such as apples or pears which they sold at local markets throughout south Floridas Up until about 1930s most people raised chickens or pigs primarily for their eggs but starting around 1930 some started to grow corn which they could sell fresh off the field

The original mission of San Francisco Xavier was built here in 1795. In 1842, General Manuel Félix López y Costilla destroyed the Mission San Francisco Xavier and moved the Catholic church to this location. This led to a period of great religious and political turmoil in the area; many people left for Mexico City or other nearby towns. But by 1850, Oviedo had become an important commercial center with its own school system, churches, and coffee shops.
