Gun barrels are a familiar sight in Oviedo, Florida. The town was founded in 1821 by Captain John A. Fenton and his family. In 1984, Oviedo voters passed an ordinance authorizing the purchase, possession and use of handguns without a license from county sheriff’s deputies as well as handgun training for private citizens with valid permits from county Sheriff’s deputies or their equivalents within 30 days following enactment of that ordinance. That law has been amended several times since then; most recently on February 4, 2016 when it was amended to allow concealed carry of handguns statewide without any special requirements or qualifications pursuant to Amendment 2 to state code §29-9-2(b). On July 1st, 2018 Amendment 3 went into effect which expands concealed carry rights to individuals over 21 years old who are residents of Florida regardless of whether they have a driver’s license or not The history of firearms is intertwined with that of Oviedo itself; both towns were founded with hand cannons as their primary form of weaponry against Native American tribes known for using bows and arrows against European settlers at various points throughout the history of both communities. Oviedo, Florida is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 17,568 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Polk County and home to the University of Central Florida. Oviedo was founded on April 1, 1839 by Captain John Bate as a portmanteau of "Oviedo", Spain (now Andalusia), and "Vido" or Venice (now Vigo) Italy. The area that would become Oviedo was first settled by Seminoles in the early 1800s. In 1836, Captain James Winthrop led an expedition from Tallahassee to purchase land in what would become Polk County from the Seminoles. The area now includes much of downtown Oviedo as well as portions of southside and eastside Polk Counties. In 1839, Captain John Bate founded the town of Oviedo on what he thought would be a strategic location between Pensacola and Mobile Bay because it offered easy access to both ports and deep water docks for Ships carrying goods around Cuba during the American Revolution. On April 1st 1839,Captain Bate named his new town after Admiral Don José de la Vega y Fuego y el Espíritu Santo who fought in Pirate Wars against Spanish forces off Havana Peninsula two years earlier Captain Bate's original store building still stands today on Main Street near where he once lived with his family including his wife Esther (née Purdy) and children John C., Anna M., William T., married Rebecca Ann Brownlee on September 11th 1840 just before they left for America Commodore James Kenedy whose ship USS Constitution had been steaming through Cuban waters when Veiga's squadron attacked her made landfall at nearby Fort Pierce which then became known as Point Burke after Commander Kenedy . After landing there he ordered all fires put out due to fears that Havana might have caught fire due to this attack any evidence remaining today about that battle may help identify those responsible for burning down Commodore James Kenedy s Constitution which likely took place near Shipyard Point some miles north of present day Oviedo Naval Air Station After leaving America en route back home through Mexico City they arrived back onshore safe but tired aboard HMS Belfast in San Francisco Bay late August 1840 They were able to disembark their ships Unaware however their baggage vessels HMS Belfast , HMS Cumberland , HMHS Diana & HMHSS Sandwich had all disappeared without trace leaving behind loads of cannons plate armour uniforms shirts boots shoes socks underwear everything except five cases pistols ammunition boxes knives pots coffee pans sugar etc going into Mexico City never to be seen again until 1945 when one case turned up having been hidden under a pile of old mattresses at El Paso International Airport

The first permanent settler in what would become Oviedo was James Cook on November 12, 1821 when he and his family left Tampa for Pensacola with the intent of trading goods with the Seminole Indians. Cook named his new settlement after General Don Carlos de Oviedo y Gasset who had led an expedition against them some years earlier in 1818. The first post office was established at Oviedo on December 5, 1826; it was moved to its present location in 1830. In 1850, a group of entrepreneurs founded the citrus industry hereabouts with investments from local investors and tiered quotas from President Fillmore's New Deal program that provided a stimulus to agriculture throughout America during that difficult time period. By 1860 over 60% of all oranges grown in Polk County were produced by farmers here at or near Oviedo Creek; today less than 10% of total fruit production takes place within a radius around this rural community – primarily because most Oranges are shipped away before they can mature and be picked clean. In 1872 an agricultural fairgrounds and markets were erected adjacent to what is now downtown Oviedo which continued until 1971 when it moved across I-4 to become one of two major retail centers not only serving central Kissimmee but also Osceola County (the other being Winter Park). At its height there were more than 120 exhibitors from 26 countries coming through town each year including top names like Singer Sewing machines and Chicago Mercantile Exchange Gold Bonds! Today there are just six exhibitors representing twenty-six countries combined with three dozen dealers selling everything from applesauce to plumbing supplies! In recent years over $5 million has been invested into modernizing infrastructure including new roads/parking lots/building additions/electrical systems etc., making this one of America's fastest growing communities as well as home to some very active businesses (over 50 full-time employees) - creating ample opportunity for residents to connect personally with their government (via elected officials) on important issues facing their community - whether it be energy regulation or traffic congestion!
