He gave it his name – "Cook's Land" – which still stands today as a reminder of his visit In 1821 Oviedo was annexed by Tampa Bay Territory as part of that territory's creation following the Seminole Wars between Spain and Seminoles over control of Tampa Bay land east of Hillsborough River. At that time there were only a few dozen people living in Oviedo when annexation occurred; by 1830 there were more than 3,000 residents living in what is today Hendry County During most of its history, OvIEDO has been known mainly as an agricultural center with limited manufacturing or professional services; however some businesses have started up here such as Oneida Furniture Chain which opened up HEREZILLA grocery store across from courthouse in 1920 There are also several historical homes remaining including one built by Judge Augustus Parker who served on Circuit Court for Hendry County from 1868 until his death in 1898 Today much important infrastructure such as bridges and roads have been replaced or updated but many original features remain like electric streetlights
