In 1892, Wm Fenton developed tracts of land north of present-day Ormond Beach and founded Fenton Bayou Company Limited with capital stock of $5,000 by his son-in-law Elisha Coolidge. This company prospered until 1902 when it went bankrupt due to overspending on goods bought by investors who had not seen the cotton crop that would become their mainstay during the early part of this century bring prosperity to the area. In 1911 Ormond Beach became an unincorporated community when it merged with neighboring Melbourne after being designated as such byBrevard County Commissioners upon application from both communities through ordinance No 1 of 1911 (now repealed). At that time there were just two buildings within Ormond Beach – a post office and private home – but since then many businesses have sprung up including: Paradise Pier Resort & Marina; First National Bank; Mardi Gras Casino; Red Lobster restaurants; KFC; Walmart Supercenter; Papa John’s Pizza.; Dunkin’ Donuts;; Little Caesars pizza.; ExxonMobil Refinery - later known as Marathon Petroleum - currently known as Phillips 66 . several other services are also available such as doctor visits, fishing trips, baptisms etc., making it one busy place! There are still some original trees left standing from those pioneer days including a tree across from where state road 7 meets SR 7A off exit 9A off I-95 South AVEORM BAY
