Ormond Beach is a small town located in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The community was established in 1903. Ormond Beach is named after the Ormonde Hills in London, England. The first target holders were a group of men who set up shooting galleries on the beach and near the river mouth. In 1907, the first air rifle range was opened in Ormond Beach by Captain H.J. Cummings and his son-in-law W.H. Seward with seventy-six rifles and pistols available for use on Long Island Sound and throughout Brevard County free of charge to all citizens ofBrevard County excepting military personnel or officials of law enforcement agencies engaged in criminal investigations or activities prohibited by law; this range continued operation until 1918 when it closed because of World War I prohibition against airgun use within military areas In 1915, Captain John Pemberton organized a committee to develop regulations for target shooters at Indian Key Lake which included setting up regulation ranges acrossbrevardcounty including Ormond Beach The next year, Captains Clements and Goodloe created an organization called "The Florida Rifle Association" to promote handgun hunting and shooting sports development statewide This organization later became known as "the National Shooting Sports Foundation" (NSSF) NSSF developed NRA regulations for target shooters which remain in effect today In 1928 Captains Kingdon and Withers organized a club called the “Citizens” at Canaveral Bay which started hosting matches there from 1929 until 1934 when they moved their match operations to Daytona Beach due to high competition from Daytona Beach competitors . In 1935 there was another move when Captains Withers renamed his club “The American Legion” at Canaveral Bay due to its patriotic leanings . In 1938 membership reached 5500 individuals with over 100 clubs nationwide competing under NRA rules ; this marks the beginning of long term NRA membership growth across America In 1939 Captains Kingdon and Withers merged their clubs into one entity known as “National Supervisors Boxing Club” (NSBC) with 60000 members competing under NRA rules nationwide ; this marks the first time that all southern states were represented on one national body responsible for boxingsports development NSBC operated out of three complexes located along US 1: NAS Coral Gables (now part Of Miami), Fort Myers (now part Of Naples)and Jupiter , Fla These complexes continued operation until 1984 when all three complexes were demolished [] [see photo] [] [] This event also marked the beginning of NSSF developing majorrules changes regarding target shooting such as limiting magazine capacities to fifteen rounds per gun while still allowing unlimited fire without penalty ][] Aftermath – these major rule changes led to increased Handgun hunting popularity across America ][] [] From these beginnings through today NSSF has continues developing firearms safety guidelines that have saved countless lives ],]

It was first named "Hollywood" after the Hollywood Sign in Los Angeles, California. Ormond Beach became a separate town in 1907. On October 3, 1917, it merged with Daytona Beach to form the unified city of Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach. The city of Daytona Beach lost its charter status in 1966 and became an unincorporated community within Ormond Beach. On May 1, 2007, the City of Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach annexed the Town of Fort Pierce which lies adjacent to both cities’ boundaries

In 1909, construction began on what would become one of America's most distinctive shopping malls: The beacheside amusement park called "Oriental." This $25 million project included an elaborate waterpark with slides, waves, tubes, ponds, and a golf course; plus two hotels (one designed by architect George Biddle); a movie theater; and more than 2,000 retail stores or businesses. Attendance topped 275 million visitors each year from 1939 to 1957 – making it the world's second-largest theme park after Disneyland – beforeDeclining due to competition from other amusement parks around the country during World War II. Oriental also hosted major events such as the Daytona 500 race in 1948 and 50th anniversary celebrations for America's oldest continuously running professional sports franchise (the Miami Dolphins) in 1959; both were televised statewide across Florida that week.
