In 1845, Ormond Beach was incorporated as a village by General James Wilkinson with 239 residents and two churches. The next year it had 2 stores and 11 dwellings. By 1850, it had 9 stores and 50 dwellings. A post office called "Ormond" was opened in 1851; its name changed to "Ormond Beach" in 1865 when the town became an official municipality underBrevard County law that year.
