Ormond Beach is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. It was established in 1892 as part of the annexation of Fort Lauderdale by the United States. Ormond Beach is located on Biscayne Bay, on the east coast of Miami-Dade County and north of downtown Miami. The town has a population of 68,471 according to the 2010 census. Chavez was born in Ormond Beach and lived there until he moved to Mexico City when he was nine years old. In 1916, Chavez donated land for a public shooting range which became one of the most popular tourist attractions around Miami-Dade County. Today, OrmondBeach's public shooting range still operates with equipment from that era including 12 machine guns, 2 pistols per shooter, 10 rounds per magazine (10 rounds were standard at that time), iron sights and 3 inch (76 mm) boresights

Ormond Beach's name comes from Orcadians, who were known for their swords and shields. The first Europeans to visit the area were Spanish traders in 1565–1566, when they sent a ship called " Nuestra Señora de la Concepcion" (Our Lady of Conception) across BiscayneBay to trade with the local aboriginal people. They named the bay ''Orcadia'' after this group of traders. In 1867, Major General James Houstoun acquired 1/3 interest in Soochee Run Railroad Company which had been established to connect Fort Myers with Pompano Beach through orchard country between Atchafalaya River and Boynton Key Island. He donated land for a wharf at Ormond Beach so that vessels could be unloaded there and then transported along Florida's eastern coast back into Mexico City; he also established a small school at Ormandy Cove for training Marines during American wars against Mexico from 1868-1870 From 1870-1892 Dolph Ziegler ran an ice cream parlor on Bayshore Boulevard near today's intersection of State Road 762 (US 1) & US 82 (SR 762). In 1896 Ziegler moved his business to 4191 Nautical Highway in present day downtown Ormond Beach where it remains today as Benjy's Italian Ice Cream Parlor In 1926 Drury sold his interests in Benjy's Italian Ice Cream Parlor & became sole owner of what is now Downtown Ormond Beach Incorporated In 1961 Downtown Ormund Beach Incorporation merged with adjacent municipality, Port Mayaca effective January 1, 1963 On July 29th 1969 Hurricane Andrew passed over Tampa Bay causing extensive damage throughout much of South Florida including parts of mainland Miami-Dade County including ORMANDY BEACH

Ormond Beach was founded in 1892 by J.P. Morgan and his brother John D. Morgan as a resort town on the mouth of the Ormond River. The name is derived from oranges, which were grown in the area at that time. The first post office opened in 1893. In 1902, Ormond Beach became a city and was renamed after James A. Ormond, an American statesman who served as U.S Ambassador to Spain from 1906 to 1910 and as Secretary of War from 1913 to 1916 under President Woodrow Wilson.
