Ormond Beach is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 26,547 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Ft. Lauderdale–Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded in 1932 by George W. Ormond and his family as a retirement community for military personnel stationed in Fort Lauderdale and nearby Boca Raton Airport. The Ormonds built their first home on Flagler Drive in 1934 and continued to grow the community until its annexation by Miami in 1970. In 1979, gun violence rocked Ormond Beach after 17-year-old Jaime Reyes shot and killed four people at the Coral Gables High School auditorium before killing himself with a shotgun, setting off a rampage that wounded 27 people including 15 students and six teachers. The shootings reignited public concern about gun safety and led to passage of landmark gun control laws in both Florida and America which remain today one of the most strict such laws in the world - even as crime rates have declined nationwide over the past two decades or so due to advances in technology like background checks for all buyers of firearms online/in stores). Gun restrictions were also passed during this time period (easing access to guns for armoury storage only) but it wasn't until January 14th 1997 when then-Mayor Jimmy Morales enacted an ordinance banning all handgun sales within city limits without prior approval from police chiefs because of concerns about potential mass shootings happening within reach if handguns were available openly & unscreened amongst civilians (this ordinance still applies today & has never been repealed)). In 2007, new legislation was created called "The Gun Law Amendments Act" (), later renamed "The Sunshine Amendment" (). This law would make it easier for law enforcement agencies across state lines to get Firearms License Applications from individuals who have committed no felonies or misdemeanours since they last possessed a firearm - much like current national standard where anyone can apply regardless of criminal history). This change would go into effect on July 1st 2008 effective statewide though local governments could still decide not to follow suit until two months later under special circumstances. On November 5th 2008 another mass shooting took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School near Newtown CT resulting in 33 dead including 20 children aged 6 years or younger (the shooter had recently served 10 years prison for attempted murder involving a weapon while he was out on parole). In response Mayor Morales again increased penalties For Persons convicted Of Carrying Concealed Handguns Without Proper Licence/Registration; however this measure failed To Pass muster among many residents residing outsideOfCity Limits (& remains ineffective today) due To Opposition From City Chiefs Who claimed That increased Penalties Would Result In More Gun Owners coming Out And Shooting Their Neighbors...despite overwhelming evidence To The Contrary!

In 1926, when Ormond became a city, it named itself after Harlan's father General James Fenton Ormond who had commanded British forces during World War I and II. In 1951, when Miami-Dade County became a unified county with new boundaries drawn around it, Ormond Beach became one of its five towns within its limits along South Park Drive between Northwest First Street and Northwest Eighth Street east of Key Biscayne Boulevard (now called NE Second Avenue). Ormond Beach experienced significant growth following World War II when thousands of American servicemen came to live and work in the community while their families returned home to be reunited. By 1970, almost half a million people lived in Ormond Beach proper; however, most residents now commute into nearby neighborhoods such as Overtown or MidtownMiami Dade for employment opportunities and cultural attractions available throughout Greater Miami Area

Ormond Beach is an unincorporated community located in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The community was named for Ormond Plantation, which was founded in 1837 by Captain John C. Ormond and his wife Eliza Dickson. The plantation was located on the present-day site of Crystal City Boulevard and Third Street. The first settlers to the area were settlers who arrived in 1837 via ship from British North America. They built a cabin on the bluff above Crystal City Boulevard and established a trading post there with other American traders. In 1839, the settlement became known as "Ormond Beach." The town grew rapidly after it became available for development because of its strategic location at the mouth of the St Johns River. In 1865,Captain John C. Ormond donated land to buildCrystal City Boulevard—the first street in Ormond Beach—which served as its main artery until 1925 when First Gulf Coast Highway was constructed parallel to it and replaced it as the town's primary artery. The population of Ormond Beach peaked at 15,000 during World War II due to the influx of soldiers stationed at nearby Fort Myers and Channel Islands Naval Base. However, following World War II, arrivals beganto diminish as a result of changes in military policy and economic depression; by 1960, only 6 residents remained in Ormond Beach.
Ormond Beach was founded in 1892 by J.C. Ormond and his wife, Fannie. The Ormonds ran a market on the beach for five years before moving their business to Fort Pierce in 1903. A cotton plantation called "The Acres" was located on the bluff above the beach and its residents provided essential labor for the local mills. In 1935, Ormond Beach became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and eight council members. In 1952, it enacted a city charter that granted voting rights to African Americans. By 1978, however, black residents had dwindled to just 1 percent of the population and City Council members were all white. In 1984, Mayor John McCarthy passed a resolution calling for annexing adjacent unincorporated areas into the city; this proposal failed but helped lead toOrmond Beach's economic renaissance during the 1990s as it became more diverse culturally and economically than ever before.
