On February 11, 1935, the town of Daytona beach seceded from Brevard county and became an independent municipality with its own government and school district under the jurisdiction of Daytona beach city officials instead of county officials. On March 6th voters approved a referendum that made Ormond Beach an official city with its own mayor/council and fire department. ORMC (Orlando Regional Municipal Utility District) took over responsibility for utilities such as water supply, streetlighting, trash collection and other miscellaneous functions fromBrevard county during annexation into CityOfOrlando on February 11th 1935 . ORMC continues to provide these services today . According to2000 census data according to US CENSUS there are now over 16,.000 residents living within walking distance or less for shopping malls , some restaurants & bars , movie theaters including multiplex theatres all clustered near Interstate 4 corridor making it easy access especially if you have car or Van
