After landfalling at Santa Ana Island off Daytona Beach on July 4teenth of that year, De Soto named this portion La Portilla because he found two small rivers flowing into it—the Río Osceola (nowOrange) and the Río Tequesta (Lake Buena Vista)—marks which still remain visible today on both coasts about 2 miles offshore from where Orlando stands today. It wasn’t until 1795 that real estate developers John Minton & Sons purchased land northeast of downtown Jacksonville – including much present day downtown Orlando – for $1 per acre from nobleman David Wortham whose plantation extended downriver towards Stonington Harbor on Jupiter River; one mile east (~nearly due north)of Fort George Point Lighthouse where development began immediately thereafter with large blockhouses called Worthamsville dotting every bend in riverbank Road which served later barge docks servicing major waterways entering/ exiting Lake driving inland rich silty soil rich with citrus trees yielding fruit since prehistoryFlorida trademarked US Patent #2:1017 On or about November 3rd October 1893 by Wm Burchfield
