The Orlando Shooting happened on Sunday, February 14th, 2018 and left 49 people dead. The gunman, Omar Mateen, killed himself after being shot by police. The tragedy has reignited discussion of gun sights in America and the Orlando shooting has given rise to new policies and laws surrounding them. Gun sights have been around since at least the 1800s and their use is often cited as one of the most important aspects of firearms safety. In fact, they are so essential that many states have laws in place requiring that all handguns must include a sight to help shooters know where they are aiming. But what exactly are gun sights? And why do they play such an important role in firearm safety? A Sight is a tool used to aim a firearm. It consists of a mirror or other object that you look through to see your target and an arm or hand device that you hold onto to keep it in view (usually a crosshair). When you fire the weapon, your aim will be based on how close your sight is to your target and how much magnification you have set for it. Gun sights come in different types including reflex sights which allow you take quick glances at your target while still holding onto your weapon; Weaver sights which allow simultaneous views from several points on the battlefield; reddot sighting systems which allow users to see their targets virtually anywhere within range; 3-gun optics which provide multiplexed targeting capabilities; night vision devices which allow shooters to kill targets while hunting during daylight hours; laser ranges finders which can be used with lasers or Opticsinks mounted on rifles for pinpoint accuracy; and more!

There is a long and complicated history of sights on firearms. The earliest sights are simple annular devices that allow the shooter to hit targets at short range. These sights were used by tribesmen and hunters in pre-european times, and they were not replaced until the late 17th century when improved sighting mechanisms became available. The first true modern firearms, such as the musket, rifles, pistols, and shotguns were designed with sights in mind. Aperture sights were developed in the 18th century to improve accuracy by allowing the shooter to adjust the brightness of their aim light so that they could see what target was present within their line of fire. By the early 19th century adjustable aperture sights had become common on all types of guns, making them essential for precision shooting at distances up to twenty yards (18 m). An additional development during this time was periscopes which allowed shooters to see details beyond their original line of sight while still being able to shoot accurately. As technology developed these features became more common and eventually evolved into today’s reflex optics sighting systems which allow shooters to adjust both focus and magnification for accurate shooting at any distance from 100 yards (91 cm) up to infinity. Today’s shotgunners use reflex optics sight systems as well as wide-angle monocularsight or spotting scopes for better ranging and hunting success when hunting big game animals like deer or elk from a great distance away. Gunmakers have continued to develop new methods of attaching sights onto firearms over the years, but essentially every type of aiming device –Aperture Sight, Reflex Sight Systems, Monocular Sighting Systems – has been put on display at some point in firearm history either before or after it was introduced onto military forces throughout history!

Kirkpatrick and others who arrived with General William Taggart's United StatesArmy during the Seminole War[5][6][7][8] after being displaced by another group led by AndrewJackson: these people were known as the Jacksonville Indians because they had moved to Jacksonville Landing before their displacement.[9] The first white settlers were not welcomed in what would become Orlando; instead they established themselves along Railroad Avenue[10]: this road served as their boundary between Native American Creek Nation residents living east of it and Spanish White settlers living west of it until 1847 when Englishman John Oxenford postulated boundaries between Creek nation and Hispanic settler community based on oxbow soundings taken from railroad line running through present day Sanford/Winter Garden areas which he named "Orlando".[11]: Furthermore, prominent developer David Drexel constructed his home at 2200 S Washington Boulevard only minutes’ walk from Stonington’s original courthouse where meetings to establish boundaries were held:[12] early maps show both communities extending into Kissimmee Townships which are now part of Sanford - one such Early Map also includes Ormond Beach Township within today's Winter Park - likely reflecting expanding commercial interests around Railroad Avenue during this period The townships formed soon thereafter around roads leading into them (Stonington Road ran through most today’s downtown), likely due to growing business opportunities surrounding railroads reaching inland from Tampa Bay
