Polk issued an Executive Order creatingSeminole Indian Reserve4 bounded by present-day Old US 87/I-4 (the current State Road 327), Sanford Avenue (now SR 328), Kissimmee Boulevard (now SR 880) east of I-4 and west of International Drive; this reserve would later be renamed Everglades National Park6 In 1893 - during Reconstruction following the American Civil War - members of Congress authorized development along Lake County Line northward from Sanford Avenue until I-4 crossed into Broward County7 In 1907 developer Waddell Hammel donated 144 acres (60 hectares) near present day White Sands Beach Boulevard for $2 million8 On May 15, 1912 - two years before Hollywood film pioneer Darryl Zanuck founded his production company--Walt Disney opened Disneyland at Santa Anita Racetrack on what is today West Floridian Drive9 . With growth came suburban sprawl across much of central Portugalale village until annexation by City Hall led to closure in 195911 ; only a small remnant remains today12 . In recent decades downtown areas have experienced revitalization through infill development and investment in creative arts properties such as musician Jebediah White's Winter Garden Theater13 and luxury retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue15 ; Andros Townsend's Colony Point16 represents another example of adaptive reuse21 .
