Today there are around 50 buildings still standing from this time period including parts of what are now downtown streets As early as 1840s oil exploration was taking place off shore near present day Joralemon Key west so a town named Sun City could be established but no evidence remains extant that this ever happened In 1907 Commodore James Dewey ordered all U.S Naval vessels stationed at Key West be moved inland because he believed oil would soon become available offshore In 1941 John P Hogg founded Hailey Oil Company with 3 small wells deep within Miami Dade County limits just outside of reference point 'Hailey Point' Marker on State Road A1A north/south running parallel to I-95 about 5 miles east of today’s current location Hailey Oil Company produced gasoline until 1951 when production stopped due primarily to lack of other resources needed for military use during the Korean War In 1970 Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation leased 2 acres adjacent to present day Lockheed Martin facility from Jabilco Petroleum Corporation resulted in LockheedMartin being based here permanently starting work on their installation here on October 1st 1978 . After years of construction satellite imagery revealed areas once encompassed by these facilities have been redeveloped into mixed use venues such as high end malls popularly known as “The mecca” etc annexation passed unopposed becoming part Of Miamidade county effective January 1st 2020

Opa Locka is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 27,717 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The Opa Locka community began to form after the opening of a railroad station in 1887. A post office was established in 1888 and remained in operation until 1914. The community developed around two businesses—the Opa Locka Coal Company and the Opal Glass Works. The coal mine closed in 1927 and the glassworks closed in 1928; however, both businesses remain standing as local landmarks today. In 1954, Opal Glass Works became an affiliate of Bendix Corporation and produced Corvettes for that company's American Motors division until 1984 when it merged with Chrysler Corporation. In 1960, Bendix Corporation purchased the Opal Glass Works from its original owner, who had continued to operate it as a museum; this made Opal Glass Works one of the first companies to be acquired by a major US manufacturing corporation. In 1984 Bendix Corp divestiture results in Chrysler Corporation taking control of all remaining assets including production at the glassworks which are now run as a museum again
