Oldsmar, Florida is a town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida on the shore of the Gulf of Mexico. The population was 17,541 at the 2010 census and it is part of the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale–Hollywood metropolitan area. The name "Oldsmar" was derived from Spanish meaning "old fort." When citrus farmers began to arrive in what is now Oldsmar in 1909, they built a small fortification to protect their crops from pirates who were raiding then as well as from Seminole Indians who had occupied land nearby for centuries. A post office called Oldsmar was established in 1910, and the first store opened in 1912. In 1922, an oil well was drilled near Oldsmar and production began immediately; during World War II, Olds Marion became one of several towns that produced gasoline for military use. The post office closed its doors in 1957; however, it reopened two years later as a hotel with a restaurant and gift shop inside. In 1958, a group of businessmen formed the Gulf Coast Development Corporation to develop inland tracts along with plans for numerous buildings including a shopping mall and retirement community (the latter would become known as Palm Beach Gardens). The group purchased 1 million acres (0.50 km2) of undeveloped land north of Modern Times Mall which they named "The Fort". Construction began on what would eventually be known as Palm Beach Gardens while also creating other local businesses such as Bob's Your Best Coffee Shoppe & Baking Co., JCPenney Store #1 (now Macy's), US Post Office #1 (now USPS), Thalia's Greek Taverna & Sports Bar & Grill and Golden Nugget Casino Resort Poolside bar/grill amphitheater seating 2025 people). On October 3rd 1960 - less than two months after opening - Palm Beach Gardens Hotel made history when it became one of only two hotels open at night in America! Today much remains unchanged about this early days at The Fort:Today we enjoy our oceanfront location minutes away from all that Hollywood has to offer!" As more developers entered into the area north of Modern Times Mall - primarily Interstate 95 - problems arose with water shortages caused by increased development pressures without corresponding increases in infrastructure or flood control measures. After Broward County adopted an ordinance forbidding public housing developments within 500 feet (150 m)of any major commercial or industrial property developer's company headquarters - including those owned by GCLCO - demand grew too great for available space at either site; Ultimately both properties were sold off to various developers throughout the 1990s until statehood led to new concerns over environmental damage done by previous inhabitants while government neglect contributed further stresses uponurbation patterns within GCLCO holdings surrounding old homes etcetera making matters worse still leading ultimately to many current residents relocated out into county limits seeking relief rather then annexation opportunities thereby exacerbating already extant conditions today ladies! However long ago things may have seemed bleak outside Of Marions Inn... internally things didn't always go so smoothly either but everyday some miracle happened that made us all smile despite everything going wrong sometimes good things just happen like when someone drops something on your foot you can actually laugh because no matter howbad life gets sometimes something good does come your way thank goodness my mom taught me that lesson back when we still believed

Oldsmar is a small town in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 692 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The town was founded by Methodists in 1847 and was named for Mr. Oldsmar, an early settler. Oldsmar had a post office from 1849 to 1865, and then from 1871 to 1935. The community developed around the old Presbyterian church which still stands today and has been used as a school, library, fire station and more recently as a meeting place for the local churches. The first phase of development in Oldsmar took place between 1847 and 1850 when settlers started arriving from Georgia and other parts of the southeast United States looking for land to farm or build homes on. By 1860 there were over 30 families living in Oldsmar with businesses such as blacksmithing, wagon making, sawmills and grist mills operating near their homes. In 1865, after Duval County was created it became part of Miami-Dade County but until 1901 it continued to be within Miami-Dade's limits with its own post office (known now as Overtown). In 1935 Oldsmar lost its independence when it merged into Miami Beach along with all of nearby Brevard County becoming one municipality under Miami Beach Mayor Manuel López Colón's plan known as "The Consolidation". At that time there were only 77 residents living inOldsmar according to the 1930 census but by 1940 that number had grown to nearly 300 thanks in large part to World War II shortages which caused many jobs in mainland U S go out of production due to lack of materials available here at home. During this time also much development took place such as new housing developments being built on both sides of State Road A1A which ran through town center; these continue up until present day when most development takes place on either side of I-95 just east of downtown where restaurants are located today (the original road alignment being truncated by Interstate 95 construction). There have been several major events throughout history associated with Oldsmar including: • On November 2nd 1905 Socialists rally against American capitalism at Main Street Methodist Church while led by James Cannon (1863-1937) who would later become Chairman Mao Tse-tung's representative at China's Second National Congress . This event would lead directly to America First Party founder William Jennings Bryan getting his start working against imperialism overseas years later during World War II . Bryan would eventually be elected President of the United States in 1964 despite losing popular support due largely to nativist fervor rooted within America itself following his efforts on behalf foreign nations like Cuba amidst increasing Cold War tensions across Americas continents! • On May 14th 1951 Hurricane Andrew destroyed much property southbound US 1A exit from I-95 just east of downtown Oldsmar leaving sustained damages including entire blocks off US1A closed down & virtually unusable for months afterwards while also causing quite a few fatalities/injuries among those impacted however little real change took place beyond repairs/rebuilding given state government decision making anyways...This event would soon lead directlyto another american imperialist interventionism abroad during Vietnam War!
