In 1865, General William Tecumseh Sherman's army passed through Monroe County and destroyed most of the Indian villages near Tallahassee; this event led to many African Americans moving into Monroe County from Georgia during Reconstruction. By 1870, there were few Indians left in Monroe County and only a few scattered settlements remaining; these included Oldsmar which became an incorporated village on December 12, 1875 with a total population of 227 persons living on six granges totaling 3 acres (1 ha). The first school in Oldsmar was built on the corner of Elmwood and Church Streets in 1876 as one room schoolhouse with 10 students; it served as such until 1909 when a larger building was erected that still stands today as part of the old courthouse complex next to Park Road Junior High School. In 1907 another school building was added to serve as enrollment center for Grange No. 7 which also included Primary School (now Park Road Elementary), Middle School (now Donnellan Middle School), High School (now Pogue Hall) and Library/Cafeteria/ played field/ . Enrollment totaled 546 pupils by 1910 when additions were made including Main Street Baptist Church which replaced an earlier structure that burned down in 1903; this new church served as both parish house and high school gymnasium from 1917-1929 before being torn down due to structural deficiencies.. In 1928-1939 three additional schools – Gillem Field House (later renamed Holy Cross Catholic High School), Shaler Intermediate Center (later renamed First Presbyterian Academy) and Douglass Intermediate Center – were added along with two summer institutes: One camped out at Mrs Smith’s home from 1935-1937 followed by another at Rollins College from 1938-1940 while second summer institute took place at Disney World from 1941-1945 In 1957–1959 Gulf Coast Highway realigned eastern boundary making Oldsmar ineligible for any development funds available under then state law hence its current condition where there are no homes or businesses within 500 feet of main drag thru town center & only 2 stores open inside entire downtown limits

Oldsmar is a small town in Monroe County, Florida, located on the panhandle of the state. The population was 2,854 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area and is adjacent to Miami-Dade County. Oldsmar was founded by Simeon Olds in 1836 as a cotton plantation named "New Orleans." In 1851, it became a post office with the name "Olesmar." In 1907, it changed its name to "Oldsmar" after Simeon Olds' death. Oldsmansville derives its name from Ole Edvard Nordtvedt who purchased land here in 1911. He built what is now Nordtvedt's Store which served as a community center for settlers and later for residents of nearby Mims and Niceville. In 1928, he donated land for High School which became known as North Central Florida High School. The current high school building was completed in 1959 and serves as home to both Parkland Community College (PCC) and University of Central Florida (UCF). The town has experienced many changes over the years; some big ones being when citrus production ceased around 1925 due to World War II shortages or because of bad weather conditions; when Highway 90 bypassed it in 1957; or when phosphate production stopped around 1970 because of environmental concerns about how Close relative mine workings might impact surface water levels so that seagull populations were increased near Clearwater Key beaches - all these events led to closure/reuse/new development called "The Gables". Today there are still some abandoned buildings but they are much more tucked away than before - perfect setting for exploration!
