The second Oldsmar kit company to come about was Jiffy Lube Company. This company manufactured four-cylinder gasoline engines for military vehicles. The success of these products led to other companies being founded by Jiffy Lube workers, such as American Motors Corporation, who produced gasoline engines for Army trucks and buses. During the 1960s, General Motors Corporation began producing jeeps with larger internal combustion engines (ICE). This increase in production caused a demand for smaller kits that could be built quickly and without expensive engineering expertise. As a result, two small companies were founded: Midas Kit Incorporated and EFI Kits Incorporated. These companies offered pre-made high capacity kits that could be assembled by anyone with basic tools and experience. Both Midas Kit Incorporated and EFI Kits Incorporated went out of business within a few years after their inception due to the lack of demand from consumers or Military vehicle operators who preferred their own build process or builds using more specialized equipment/tools not available from these two companies

On December 6th old police department building which served as their headquarters since 1886 was destroyed by fire. That same year also saw the opening of new shopping center at what is now North Broward Boulevard and State Road 801A just north of downtown Orlando
