When Oldsmar, Florida was settled in 1852 by Irishmen, they were the first to bring firearms to the area. The guns they brought were rifle and shotgun pouches. At that time, there was no law prohibiting carrying handguns in public. One of the first gun owners in Oldsmar was John Redmond. He owned a pistol and ammunition store on Main Street. In 1892, he became one of the first residents to vote inOldsmar’s incorporation as a town. Numerous other firearm owners followed Redmond into townhood over the next few decades. From 1902 until 1935, handgun ownership withinOldsmar limits was limited to those owning rifles or shotguns with at least 10 rounds of ammunition per weapon. This restriction was lifted when Congress passed the National Firearms Act (NFA) which granted registration rights to all handgun owners not currently registered with any state or federal agency. The NFA also made it illegal for anyone under 21 years old to possess a handgun without a license from an adult guardian or parent/guardian if both individuals resided within 100 miles of either Oldsmar’s city limits or its airport boundaries at the time of purchase. This policy change caused some young people in Oldsmar to began purchasing handguns online or from unlicensed sellers who had sold them licenses after being caught by law enforcement while possessing weapons without proper identification

Oldsmar, Florida is a tiny town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 5,552 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Oldsmar was founded in 1907 by J.C. Olds and his brother W.K. Olds as a small agricultural community on an island in the Everglades National Park near present-day Doral Beach. In 1949, Oldsmar became an unincorporated community within Miami-Dade County and has since been gradually swallowed up by its larger neighbor to the south and west - Coral Gables - which has had a profound impact on both communities' demographics and residents'. The name "Oldsmar" first appeared on deeds issued in 1906 for property along Utopia Boulevard just south of present day Midtown North (or South) in Miami-Dade County.. The land that would become Oldsmar was purchased from Chief Chasuble Indian Tribe by J.C.(Jocko) Olds with fellow citizens John Wetherbee and Willis Hogg for $1,000 cash on July 3rd 1907.. Originally known as Cedar Key until 1912 when it changed its name back to Oldsmar after purchasing land from Captain Edwin Hawkins of Havana for $1,000 (the same price he paid for the islands). After years of growth and development centered around farming activities that began with sugarcane production swamping their backyard during high water times; wealthy early settlers imported horses to help them transport crop goods long distances over bridges spanning then navigation channels; citrus harvesting commenced soon after sun exposure caused fruit trees to produce fruit they could not commercially poplar or sugar palm plantations ..... By 1930 there were 332 families residing in what would become downtown Olsdorf including 109 farmers who raised livestock raising hay, cattle & pigs; one grocery store (owned & operated by Mrs Averill Baldwin), several schools: two public schools opened in 1910/11 thru 1915/16 (& grades 1 through 8 were taught here), twelve churches serving varying denominations ( Episcopalians , Methodist Episcopalians etc.), five post office buildings:, two physicians practicing medicine out of town clinics,. There also existed three stores viz: Mrs Averill Baldwin's store at 419 S Main St(later Alain’s); Dr Cushman’s Store at 424 S Main St., Brother W K Oldys Store at 715 E Sunrise Ave.; all closed by 1975 but still extant today as component parts of local businesses ................................. As more people migrated into new suburbs characterized by large shopping malls taking over heavily rural areas this original farmland slowly reverted back to agriculture . However some offshoot businesses did continue like Mother Dairy where milk was sold until 1978 before being taken over by Philip Morris Corp.;[2] however other businesses such as Mr Fenton’s ice cream parlor closed around 1970 while many homes were abandoned ................................. Despite this slow erosion rate Folks continuedmoving&settling into what would eventually become downtown Olsdorf largely due to job opportunities available jobs open w/out having to leave their home city limits ......... Today much remains unchanged from former days with few if any changes except perhaps newer names given more recently while storefront addresses have changed hands numerous times ............... Downtown Olsdorf still contains nearly all original BUSINESSES FROM WHEN IT WAS FIRST OPENED IN 1910 thro 1945minusMother Dairy which closed circa 1970 ............... So much so that locals affectionately callOlsdorf “LeatherstockingLand” due to lack thereof contemporary business establishments ...... Although much has changed since World War II most aspects remain MUCH THE SAME AS WHEN THE COMMUNITY FIRST rallocated TO MIAMI DADE COUNTY ................... Most notable are OLSDORF'S 100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION EVENTSwhich will take place ON JULY 6TH 2019 THROUGH JULY 11th inclusive ....... parade beginning every morning at 9am followed BY food vendors prior uptown............ Festival begins each evening following parade late night until about 10pm
