The first Oldsmar settlement was established in 1825 at what is now known as junction of State Road 8 and Federal Road 5. The town was named after General James Wilkinson Oldsmar, who fought in the Seminole War and later served as a U.S. Representative from Florida. In 1865, Oldsmar became an unincorporated community when it merged with Stonington to form the new town of Stonington-Oldsmar. In 1902, Oldsmar again merged with Stonington-Oldsmar to form the new municipality of Oldsmar-Stonington. On March 1, 1907, the towns became separate cities when they were annexed by Jacksonville. On November 6, 1969, Jacksonville annexed all of Duval County except for portions located in old Stonington-Oldsmar which remained independent municipalities until 1991 when they were combined into one city under the name Jacksonville

Oldsmar is located on State Road 320 east of Interstate 95 and north of US 41. The first Oldsmar settlement was founded in 1892 by two brothers, George and John Oldsmar. They were pioneers in the area and brought over logs to build their home near what is now the intersection of State Road 320 and US 41. With only 10 residents at its inception, Oldsmar grew rapidly due to its location and access to agricultural land. By 1920, it had 100 residents and became an incorporated town with a government headed by a mayor and five trustees. In 1924, Oldsmar voted to become state-owned for $1 million which made it one of the few towns in Florida that received countyhood statewide. A year later, townspeople approved annexation by Palm Bay Township which had larger ambitions for development within its boundaries In 1954, after years of discussions between Palm Bay Township officials and local leaders in Oldsmar about building an airport within the township boundaries – something that both towns agreed couldn’t be done without unanimous agreement from all involved – Palm Bay Airport opened as an international airport under full state ownership with commercial service beginning on July 1st that year As time passed new malls were built closer to Interstate 95 while other businesses moved out or closed down altogether leaving behind a largely rural community characterized primarily by agriculture until recently On December 3rd, 2006 when Hurricane Charley struck central Florida killing many people including Mayor Jane Pasternack (a retiree)Oldsmar lost everything including her home valued at over $225K she had been living in since 1978 until her death just days before Christmas After much discussion among all those impactedánnewcomersand long term residents alike plans are being put into placeto bring back some semblance of what used to be there with help from some private individualsíndividual donations as well as assistance from Brevard County
