They were hunters and gatherers who roamed the area for food and minerals. About 12,500 years ago, a group of Native Americans called the Apalachicola brought agriculture to the area. This led to a change in how people lived and hunted. Now that they had crops and animals to work with, they began to specialize in different activities such as fishing, gathering resources and trade.
Oldsmar, Florida is a small town in Escambia County,Florida, United States. The population was 1,838 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola–Ferry Pass–Panama City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now includes Oldsmar was first settled by Native Americans in the early 1800s. A post office called Oldsmar was established in 1881, and the town took its name from General John P. Oldman, who fought in the American Civil War and also served as a judge for Escambia County. Oldsmar's economy has been based on agriculture since before it incorporated as a municipality in 1907. After World War II, when nearby Panhandle became an urban center with more inhabitants than farmers living nearby to market their goods, Oldsmar prospered as a bedroom community for Pensacola until it lost its status as an agricultural centre during the Great Recession of 2008-2009. However, there are plans to revive some aspects of its economy such as manufacturing and retail services within coming years. In addition to its downtown core which contains two shopping centres (the old N/A Mills courthouse complex on SR 546 and Santana Oaks Shopping Center off US 31) and several small businesses including four banks (First National Bank of Pensacola; Citizens National Bank; Regions Bankshares; First State Bank), Oldsmar has several older buildings from pre-industrial times which are still used for various purposes such as schools or churches dating back to 1875 (Stratford School; First Presbyterian Church). There are also numerous warehouses dating back to World War II which have been converted into residential units or business properties complete with kitchens and bathrooms that can accommodate up to 100 residents each

The community was founded in 1892 by J.P. Olds and his brother-in-law, Simeon Burchill. Oldsmar's first store was built on State Road 7 near present day Oldsmar Middle School. The area that now encompasses Oldsmar was settled by Native Americans in the late 1800s as part of the Apalachicola Indian Nation. The first white person to live in what is now Oldsmar arrived in 1892 when J.P. Olds and his brother-in-law, Simeon Burchill set out from Pensacola with four horses to purchase land east of the Town Lake for $2 per acre (about $ today). In 1898, after months of exploration, they located and platted their new town on a tract they had purchased from Jabez Bowen for $135 ($ in 2006) The first post office opened in 1897 and remained open until 1903 when it became part of Gainesville . In 1902, John Fenton established a grocery store at 2104 State Road 7 which still stands today as one of Gainesville's most famous businesses. Mr Fenton became known throughout Tallahassee for stocking high quality local produce along with international brands like Swiss Chalet and Lidl . Mr Fenton also served as Mayor from 1933 until his death in 1938 after serving two terms consecutively In 1924 Dr Frederick Wintz established Nursing Home #1 at an address later changed to 3305 N US Highway 19 Nursing Home #1 continued operation until its closure in 1978 due to budget cuts during the Great Depression Headed up by Mrs Winnet Toole who ran it until her death fifteen years later it remains one of Gainesville' most prominent landmarks
Oldsmar was founded in 1847 by Captain James W. Olds and his wife, Mrs. Sarah B. Olds. The first post office was opened in 1849, and the town was incorporated on May 10, 1850. The first store was built in 1851, and the first hotel was built in 1853. In 1861, the Union Pacific Railroad arrived in Oldsmar, and the town quickly became a transportation center for settlers living near Pensacola Bay. By 1865, Oldsmar had a population of over 200 residents. In 1870, the first school was built in town; it served students until 1915 when it became part of Pensacola High School. After railroad construction stopped in Oldsmar during World War I, the community slowly declined until it reverted to its pre-railroad days by 1920 when it had only about 60 residents remaining.
