Oldsmar is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,912 at the 2010 census. Oldsmar is part of the Tallahassee–St Petersburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was founded on October 12, 1892 by banker and landowner J.B. Olds and his son-in-law Wm. Henson as a small community on the banks of the St Johns River near present-day Pensacola Beach. The town's first store was built in 1892 by banker J.B. Olds and his son-in-law Wm. Henson; it consisted of a room with a single bench for customers to wait on their transactions while they shopped around the nearby riverbank village of Pensacola Beach which had started up shortly before them. In 1901, entrepreneur John Peele donated over 4,000 acres (1 km2) of undeveloped sandhills along the St Johns River to create what would become Oldsmar; this area eventually became known as "Peele's Swamp". On October 12, 1892, bankers J.B."J" Olds and Wm."H"enson organized a small meeting at their home in order to select a name for their new community - "Oldsmar" after banker John Peele who had given them permission to establish it on his land east of Pensacola Beach where he lived with his family until his death in 1893 aged 77 years old from natural causes - making him one of its earliest settlers and an important factor in its early development as a small farming community located primarily along the shores of Tampa Bay facing inland towards Fort Myers/ Melbourne & Jupiter). After much deliberation among themselves due to differences over pronunciation (Ole' smar), they decided that "Oldsmarr" should be pronounced like "Ohio", not like "Marriedarn"; however many people still refer to it today as "Olsmar". This initial group of six founders originally planned to stay only one year but quickly realized that they could not do everything themselves so soon after settling in – they needed some help! So they recruited local farmers and fishermen who contributedmanpower and resources such as horses, dogs teamsters etc., which helped support their agricultural activities until 1914 when electric lights were brought into town for all residents which allowed businesses such as grocery stores etc., opened up providing prosperity for locals including those now living within minutes or less distance from downtown Oldsmarrtown square via Interstate 4 without having ever set foot inside one inch of that Failed Village called “Pensacola” City Limits!! In just 50 years! !!!!! darn youoka yall really got my goat……….
Oldsmar, Florida was a small town in Duval County, Florida until it was annexed by Tallahassee on January 1, 1959. It is now the City of Oldsmar.
