Oldsmar is a small town in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,646 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola–Ft. Walton Beach–Boca Raton metropolitan area. The name "Oldsmar" comes from Spanish meaning "old fort." The first humans to live in what is now Oldsmar were Native American Seminole Indians. They built a settlement on the blufftop of Castle Hill around 1845. When Fort Union was founded in 1846 by U.S. Army Major James Wilkinson and his white soldiers, the Indian occupants abandoned their settlement and moved away because of military duty at Fort Union rather than stay and face punishment from the U.SOA for not obeying orders to abandon their homes/ settlements thereabouts. In 1853, A&P store owner John Sieving came up with the idea of building an office park downriver from Pensacola so that people could work close together without traveling far to get to work each day. He named it Oldsmar after his old home near Mobile, Alabama where he had lived as a child with his parents and siblings before moving westward across country when he was just 11 years old in search of opportunities like those available in Mobile and Pensacola at that time (1824-1857). In 1912 A&P's son Alvarus Wickersham became president of Gulf Coast Oil Company which merged into ExxonMobil in 1999 dredging started on nearby bluffs known as Greenville Harbour located between Oldsmar Creek estuary and Greenville Harbor Light House dated back to 1886 resulted in formation of Intracoastal Waterway connecting Tampa Bay with Gulf Harbor making it possible for goods boats going between Tampa Bay and Panama City through this harbor more easily accessible then ever before
